i saw a jonquet ripper on 973C loader that seems really better and stronger and be possible to make shank longer and has constant angle in this ripper. on the other hand, original cat ripper is very poor. also the shanks in jonquet is thicker so it is stronger than cat. here are the pictures, compare them;

this is jonquet

Cat rippers are very strong and are very good rippers. Remember, they are only made for ripping hard packed dirt or shale.

The Jonquet ripper does not look as strong as the Cat. It has more moving parts, and more places to fail. It also sticks out in the rear farther, and is more likely to get you hung up when digging a deep hole. The Cat design is simple yet strong. The advantage of the jonquet is that the tip angle is constant.

Dumb Q, but how does the Jonquet ripper dig very deep because the cyliners are all the way in for full down and it is only in the ground a few inchs? right?

If you pull the pin out and lower the shank to the other hole there it looks like it would go in the ground another 8" or how ever far those holes are apart. Looks like they did that so when the shanks are in the upper position there is more ground clearance. It looks like those cylinders are long enough that when raised up all the way it would be pretty close to the rear of the machine and up out of the way.

X2 you want to run less shank for hard ripping so you can get the lifting arms of the ripper’s level with the ground.
