Ok, I'd like you all to check out this house. I didn't dig the foundation, but I did help to make it the right size and put it on grade. I also dug the utility trenches and did some rough grading. Also, I did some welding, including welding the...uh...well, I welded the front door in place.
Here's the website that shows the house (http://www.finalmove.com/preview.html).
Will Gurt just sent me the link. I knew the place was going to be famous someday! :cool2
What a Hassle!!Is that Harland Sanders house? LOL

That's kinda cool. I'll bet the neighbors hate them. LOL Did they have any trouble with building codes?

Fred Flintstone's country villa? How does a home builder bid something as unconventional as that? Time and materials? Must have made a fortune. Whats up with the upper left corner, looks like the brickwork was not finished for some reason or did the mason get fed up and quit?

The website doesn't really make it clear that the owner is the architect, and he was his own general contractor too. (I suppose he'd like potential customers to believe that somebody else liked the design enough to have somebody build it. I guess that's just smart merchandising. ) I understand that a lot of the work was done on a T&M basis. Anything in the photos that appears incomplete probably was, at the time they were taken. I haven't been there for a few months, but I don't think its completed yet.
He's a nice guy, and he put an awful lot of effort into the house. It is interesting to hear people's reactions to it. I'm sure the owner would agree that the design makes a powerful statement--it speaks for itself to the extent that, any further comment is rendered inaudible.
As far as the neighbors--the house sits on 5 acres of woodland. There's another house on the next lot. It sits about 150' down the hill. It...is a log house. I ran into the other owner one day and suggested that the two presented "quite a study in contrast". His reply; "It wasn't planned that way." I've been told they turned their house 90 degrees from their original plan so that their front door faces away from the other house.
I can't really say anything bad about the project except that the owner's desire to minimize disturbance to the woods led to the water service line and the gas service line being nearly on top of one another. The Feng Shui of the site has caused a conflict in the Tao of the utilities, and I fear that there's a lot of bad Karma awaiting me in my next incarnation, especially if I have to go digging there again...

I was at this house last Thursday. To say the least it is unique! The chimney is complete. Some of the nieghbors refer to it as "The Jetson House".

I've been playing with Google earth, and taking some snapshots of places I worked. It's been a while since I posted this thread, and we have lots of new members since then.
The website has been updated, and it's obvious that the house has gotten attention from a number of places, and even been on HGTV. (It looks like it'll be on again on 12/29/06. I'll have to remember that, since I've missed all the previous airings.)
Here's what it looks like from above. You get a much better idea of the wooded setting.
On edit: I added a shot from a lower angle too.

www.flashearth.com is another cool satellite imaging site. They let you choose from several different types of images to look for the best quality in your area.
