Anyone know why it doesnt show the thread has already been read? On other forums , once you have read the thread it will let you know by not being highlighted or something. Then if the next time you come back and there is a new response it will be in bold letters and you know there has been a response. Thanks , doug

Try logging out,and then log back in.This should reset your cookie, and may solve the problem.
You can also manually clear your cookies, and then log in.

The function works as it should for me. You should also see a little blue check icon that will take you to the new post. The first thing I do when I visit is click the "New Posts" icon at the top of the page to show me what has happened since my last visit.

Something else you can do is just before you leave is go to the forum home page by clicking our logo in the upper left, then toward the bottom of the page there's an icon "Mark all threads read" This should help. If you return to the forum a short period of time after you've left, the program won't realize that you had left and may be the reason for the problem.

So do i manully have to mark all threads read? It seems to me that most forums mark them read after i have read them? Now today I come on to read and the marker at the left columns shows no "new" threads. BUt looking at the dates i can see there is 6 new threads today. I am confused on how you follow along. I went to userCP above to check that i had everything set right. It seems there is no adjustment anywhere to automatically tell me the post i have read or what is new? But sometimes it has worked that it tells me what is new by lighting up a letter in the left column. Sorry , i am just a dirt donkey and dont quite understand computers. But seem to not have this problem on other forums. Thnank you, doug

I'm not sure why you are having this problem. We have a total of 5 members using the same server here as you, but they aren't as active as you so I can't find out if it is unique to your server. I'm not sure why it would only happen here though either.
If I log on from a different computer than the one I use normally, it will show the same new posts that I had seen from the regular computer plus any posts made since that time. This is the only time I have any confusion.
You shouldn't have to manually click the "Mark Threads Read" button, but it is an option to help clear some of the confusion.
Some people have reported this after upgrading to 3.6.X versions. I own a local street scene vbulletin forum and I haven't encountered that problem yet, but I'm still on the 3.5.3 version. The simplest way I've found to solutionize 99.9% of vbulletin issues is just to search out vbulletin.com
My personal complaint with these glitches is that they can be so darn time consuming to deal with. I've spent all night (many nights) correcting the simplest things that nobody even notices. :spaz
I ran a quick search at vbulletin anyway and this is what I came up with. At least it's a start. :wink2

DigDug,
First thing I would check is that you have cookies enabled. I know you say it works on other forums, but you never know, the problem could be on your end. :)

I have had it happen too, but only sporadically. Something like this:
I'll log on, read all the new threads, hit "new posts" again read anything posted since I logged on, then log off (leave the site but still have IE up I think)
Then a few hours later I'll bring up HEF again (automatic log on) and hit "new threads" and all the one's that I previously read (no new posts in them) are marked as new again.
Doesn't happen to me often, but it has happened.

I've had that happen--as a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's normal. On the other hand though, I've read some number of new posts, while having skipped over some others, and clicked on the "new posts" button, and not gotten all the new posts then. I just checked that this afternoon, and found that the "today's posts" button, found under the "Quick links" menu, gave me all the threads from today, but ones I hadn't read were still not shown in bold.
(Confused yet?)

Why yes. Yes, I am.
However:
as a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's normal.

It's always worked fine while at the site(without leaving), but once I go off for an hour or more, more often than not, when I return it has forgottton what I've already looked at.:beatsme
It hasn't been that big a deal too me, but it is different than how it's worked for me at other sites.

Give me some time to work on this a little and I'll try to get it corrected. There's an option I'm looking in to that I want to add that will open up your "New Posts" options.

I apologize for getting off topic here, but is there any way you could restrict Countryboy from quoting me?
Ah, never mind...

I made an adjustment, I'm not sure it will help anything. Let me know if you see any difference.

I have 6 pages of new and unread threads. But I have read most of them. Also when hit go to first new post sends me to post starting sometime this morning. Even though I have read them.

Sorry Steve, I dont see any difference on my end. I came on today and it showed some new threads. That was great , but after i read them and go back to the main board to see what other new threads there are , it still shows the thread i read as new. That doesnt screw me up to much, but when i come on and it shows around 5 new threads lit up , but there is really another 3 new threads (according to the right hand column that shows "today" and the time.) but there just not lit up in bold print. Must be something internally with the board here becuase i dont notice it on other boards with the same format as here. I am glad to hear I wasnt the only one here not seeing the new threads or getting them marked as read. doug :bash

I switched it back to the original setting, what I did made things worse. I'll work on this a bit, it will take a little while.

If it helps I think I am back to normal. So I would imagine it was the fix that messed it up for me.
