This question comes up a lot. I hope this will help.

How do I post the images in the message?

Hit the post reply button, and you'll get the reply page.

On that page, hit the "manage attachments" button (Red arrow), and the smaller window will appear.

In that window, use the "browse" button (green arrow), to browse your files until you find the picture you'd like to post. You'll notice the table in that window. It tells you the file types, and the size of the picture that the site will accept. If the picture is larger than 640 X 640 pixels, it's too large, and needs to be made smaller. Also, if the filesize is larger than 100.0 kb, it needs to be compressed.

Hit the upload button (blue arrow), and your picture will be uploaded to the site. You will then find the filename of that picture, directly above the "manage attachments" button, that you started with.

You can post up to 5 pictures per post in this fashion.

Microsoft has a great picture resizer that will resize pics to 640X480,which is a perfect size for posting here.Click here (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe) to download.

You just install the program, then right click on the picture you want to resize. You will now have an option on the menu to resize pictures.Select 640X480,and it will resave a new version of the picture, with the same filename, except it will have (small) appended on the end of it.If your original pic was "dozer.jpeg",it will now be called "dozer(small).jpeg".

You can also do a whole bunch of pictures together,in a batch. If you want to do all the pictures in your folder, then hit CTRL A,to select all,and then right click to resize. It will do every pic.You can also select just the pics you want by holding down the CTRL key,and selecting all the pics you want, then right click on one to resize. If you want to do a bunch in a row, then selct the first one, hold down SHIFT,and select the last one.It will select everything between the two pics you clicked on.Right click to resize.

Because the file size limit (100 kb) is higher here than most message boards, you should not have to do any further compression to get it small enough. If you do need to compress, use any picture editing program, open the file, then select File -> Save As and save it as a jpeg. Most programs will have a slider bar,or a % box where you can increase the amount of compression.

Thanks Wyldman.

Resizing seems to be a frequent problem as well, but I wan't mentally prepared to try and explain that tonight. (Besides the fact that what I have on my computer here might not be the same as what everyone else has on their computer.) I posted the other information in a reply in another thread, and since I already had it at my fingertips, I thought I'd post a thread about it here.

Hopefully, everyone will be able to share their pictures now, without any further frustration. :)

I tried to post some pics of my loader today (using IMG tags) that photobucket hosted for me. It seems you guys have that feature disabled as well. This is the first vbulletin forum out of many I've joined that didn't let me do that.

Information in addition to what Wyldman described above..

I use the picture manager in MS office.

Outside of that, it's been discussed in this (http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=1521&highlight=jpegcompress) thread. (Since I'm not familair with the programs discussed there, I'll won't confuse the issue further by trying to reiterate that information here.)

When replying to a thread click this button (10637) in the toolbar above the reply.

This will take you to the "Manage Attachments" screen. From there you can click on browse, which will allow you to find pictures you want to upload. After you find the picture you want, click the "Upload" button.

After you have uploaded your pictures (5 pictures max per post), click on the Paperclip button again and click "Insert All" at the bottom of the drop down menu. This will insert your pictures into your reply.

If you've done this and it's still not working, let me know.

On Edit: Digger's first post is exactly what I just typed up. I forgot which thread I was in.

Euclid, you should be able to start a new thread and post pictures now that you have more than 3 posts, in fact you should have been able to post pics in an existing thread from the getgo. Let us know if you are still unable to post a pic.

To help the new members with site functions, I have this thread linked in my signature. I'm updating it to reflect a change that has been made on the forum.

Problems with resizing pictures should be minimal now, due to the automatic resizer that has been added to the forum. The steps that are listed above, detailing resizing instructions, are no longer necessary with the automatic resizer.

The only thing you might have to do is convert any Bitmap (.bmp) images to .Jpeg format. If your photos are already .Jpeg or another common format, besides Bitmap, nothing needs to be done on your part.

The rest of the instructions in this thread, on how to post pictures, currently still pertain.

I reference this thread about the automatic resizer: Photo Resizer (http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=6132)

As always, if you are still having problems posting pictures you can ask them here.

I see my Uploaded attachment's in my UserCP. How long do I have before I can Delete the picture's?

How could I delete the Picture's that Have been on the site for a while?

Thank's.

There's no means available for users to delete their pictures. It has the potential to confuse everybody and mess up the threads when a picture is posted, discussed, and then later disappears...

Ok that's fair enough.

How much time before my latest pic will be locked and I loose control over it?

EDIT: How long do I have before I can Edit my post's?.

EDIT: How long do I have before I can Edit my post's?.

I suspect you meant to ask how long it is before you cannot edit your posts.

The time limit on users editing their own posts is 60 minutes. That's mainly so that you can add or correct something to make the post better, or in extreme cases, take back something you realize you shouldn't have said. Be aware though, that once somebody has read something like that, and perhaps quoted it in their reply, it's "on the record", so to speak. Experience has proven that allowing users unlimited ability to edit or remove their own posts can really make things confusing, as described above.

It's always best to think before hitting that "submit reply" button.

I've never tested it, but I believe the time limit for removing an attachment is the same. Once your edit time limit has expired, so has your option of removing an attachment.

:D Never had time to edit that but that's exactly what i was meaning to .... Mean. :D

Thank's for clearing that up for me, I will use extreme caution now before posting sensitive material and photo's.

Shame about the 60min limit though. Could have opened a few thing's up for the member's.

I asume you have the power to Edit post's at will anytime?

How about pulling the Big Shovel pic for me when the thread dissapear's into the archive?

HEF Staff,

I guess this is the best place to address this. I just attempted to load a few photos from work and it seems that I can't load them without resizing them again. I know that occasionally there are photos I would have to resize, but these photos are the same size as photos I uploaded a week ago with no problems.

Did something change or is HEF still having some server issues like it was a few days ago?

Ok. lemme try and get right to my point. I hope I missed something here that maybe one of you can point it out for me. My problem is: I have pics on my personal e-mail that I want to post in this site. I don't know how to get them here! Then It looks as if I can figure out how to assemble them along with managing attachments exc... OR did I miss the boat somewhere here? I have never Sent pictures here. Sorry to seem so lost....but I sure am....Thanks for any help!

what you need to do is save the pictures in your email to a file on your computer, then upload them here. Go to the email, right click on the picture, then "Save picture as" and send it to a file. Then in your post, click "browse" for the picture and go to that file in your computer and click on it. Any questions?
