Hi all! I've been perusing this site for months and thought it was time to actually post something! :) I do feel a bit of a poser, as my heavy equipment operation experience is limited to mere hours. I have, however, logged practically months of time installing aftermarket security and training systems in, on, around, and near various pieces of equipment for a large mining company in Southern BC (and central AB!). Unfortunately, due to various legal docs I was *forced* to sign (if I wanted to get paid, hehe), I am unable to post a lot of pictures from the site(s). But I do have a lot of pics that I *can* post, so I believe it's time for me to rack up the post count!

Welcome to Heavy Equipment Forums!!:drinkup

I'd be interested in hearing about the security systems for machines....just general information, nothing privileged. I've been considering a system for my skid steer, the area is changing around me.

Hi Steve, thanks for the welcome!

The systems we installed were very much adaptations from building-style systems. There isn't a lot of professional-grade equipment-specific system development from where I see it, but I don't think there needs to be. The most common install was a card-door interlock system; you had to present your ID card to a reader next to the door to open the lock (fully automated). The reader system was self contained on the machine; it wirelessly "replicated" with a central server at select shift changes. If you weren't trained for that machine, no access. Also did a lot of camera installs on the haul trucks, but mainly for visibility (there were several fatal accidents recently). Similar card and camera systems were also installed at the fuel depot to monitor usage (and to penny pinch, hehe :laugh )

I see.

I'm looking more for a system similar to LoJack. Unfortunately the police in my area don't have LoJack receivers. Not that there's an epidemic, but there are more reports of stolen machines around here than there ever were before. If I lose my machine I'm out of business.

I hear you. I am sorry that my experience isn't of much use to you, I guess we sort of catered our systems to those with near-infinite budgets!! :laugh I'll do some digging, however, I am sure I can find some info from a supplier or some catalogs lying around the office.
