View Full Version : More 580D questions
I was wondering what these levers do, 1, 2, and 3:
Also, is this loop supposed to fit over this pin for transport? Because I don't see how it could reach

ALl the case backhoes ive ran when you're pulling the boom in for transport you pull it back till its almost as far back as it goes then give it a little push forward and it will snap back the rest of the way and lock into place. Oldest ive ran is mid 80's 580 though.

I'll take a guess. it has been 20 years sence I have been on a Case.
1. Diff lock. Locks both back wheels for traction when needed but is only momintary when foot is on it.
2. parking brake?
3. turn signal
and that pin is for transport. when brainging the boom back just as it reaches top position change from boom up to boom down quickly and it will over center and lock.
Like I say it has been a while so someone correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct. As far as #3, I am not sure because I have never used ours.
As far as the loop that you are talking about. Bring the boom back towards the machine and just when it almost to the top, snap the stick forward and it will lock.
Thanks everyone. Very helpful. :notworthy

Yeah. It takes just a bit of practice. You'll notice that when the boom is almost straight up and down, the cylinders are drawn as far in as they can go. You need a little momentum as you raise the boom, and just as it reaches that vertical point, is when you push the other way--that momentum carries it past vertical, and the cylinders extending moves it toward you now.
Can you figure out how it unlocks? :wink2 (Which I ask only partly in jest, cause if you get it locked, you'd better already know how to unlock it.)

This may be obvious to you, but one never knows who might be reading this thread later on--when Tyler says "transport" he means "roading". DON'T lock it in the up position for trailering!! :spaz You'll knock down a bridge...

I was never on a D, but I think Dwan is correct that that's what that one is, however--on my first C, it locked, and stayed locked, and it was difficult to get it to unlock. On my second C, it didn't work at all. But, when it's locked, there's no turning that machine--it goes in the direction it's pointed, regardless of which way you turn the wheels.

Well i got here a little late but sounds like the questions have been aswered. On my C the diff. lock would only stay on when you push down on the foot pedal. You better know about the unlock before you lock the boom lol .

I see there is a lever attached to a bar resting against the pin that looks as if it would lift up the ring off of the pin. Is this correct?

When unlocking press the release lever and apply up then down quickly on the boom lever. or was it down then up? Whichever works LOL.
