Hi all,
I am performing a market research about computer systems used to monitor and manage the maintenance of heavy construction equipment.
I would like to know whether you use any software (which one, if positive) and general impressions - like it? Does it attend your needs?
Anything you may add will help a lot.
I am new to this field, so tips of good references on the Web will also be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance...

Whoop,whoop **** Nerd alert , nerd Alert ***** whoop,whoop
just kindin ,
Welcome to the board , is that Mr. Equipsys ?
can't really help you on the research you wanted ,but I'm sure if you call up your local Cat dealer you might find a lot of info there . Not sure about all of the peeps on this forum ,but so far it seems that most are small business owners or real operators/mechanics etc , not the type of crowd that sits at a screen or behind a desk too much ; heck , do they even have desks in cubicals or are they tables ?? Sorry , I digress . Anyway , I've worked for some larger construction outfits , and most of the maintenance was monitored by the individual doing the work ,and they usually just kept track of everything ( efficiently i might add ) in a couple of notebooks in the cab of the truck . But for really large outfits like NorthAmerican or Kiewitt , they probably have programs aquired thru their equipment dealers , such as this for Cat :
http://www.finning.ca/services/support/software/
and they can afford to pay someone to just keep track of everything . Smaller spreads though , with less iron , it'd just be a waste in my opinion .
best of luck with the research , someone around here hopefully can provide you with less sarcasim and more answers . Must be the coffee .....

We have 60 employees, and less than 20 pieces, not counting trucks.Owner switched from American Contractor:mad: ,to Foundation  .First one was horrible from the shop side.Foundation is better, but is more accounting than tracking.Cat used to have a program called MCS that was good, but was DOS only, info had to be translated to accounting software.Have yet to see anything that has complete intergration, most are good at either money,or machines.
