Hey guys, just wondering if any of you can help me. I have a 2003 Bobcat 763 which I bought new. A couple of times the heat stopped coming out of the vents in the cab. The fan still works but no heat. It usually comes back on in 1/2 hr to an hr. What is causing this?

I know a guy who had a JohnDeere and had no heat at all coming out even after a couple hours running time. The problem was the thermostat. However, if it coming and going then I am not real sure but my guess is a possible air pocket in the system. Maybe when it shows up in the wrong place at the wrong time, the heat goes off (less likely). The thermostat could be sticky. Do you shut the machine off in this 1/2 hour to 1 hour time? Maybe the thermostat opens all the way instead of a little. Maybe a line is pinched and restricted somewhere. Just a few possibilities.

I demoed a Cat brand new and it had no heat either no matter how long you run it. I think it was the thermostat problem (not sure). Then we demoed a different one (new) and there was more than enough heat (normal).

Good luck!:)

Make sure your coolant level is at spec too. A low coolant level would create the air pocket mert suggests.

Another cause could be a bad head gasket, allowing compression to enter the coolant passages and create a pocket.

Couple hours after posting this my guy said the temp level started climbing and he could smell antifreeze and see it steaming. Obviously there is a leak somewhere. Will post the outcome after I have a chance to look at it.

Well guys, I had a chance to look at the Bobcat. Right away I noticed the rad cap was loose. Took about a gallon and a half to fill her up. Ran it for about 15 mins. Temp gauge never moved past 1/3 and nothing was leaking or steaming anywhere. Dealer said it probably was delivered to me like that. He gave me 2 gallons of antifreeze no charge. Hope that was all it was. Thanks for the replies.
