I am about to purchase a 1994 580sk with 7000 hrs, has ext hoe, seams to run fine, hoe is tight. cab is rusty. i know this machine has the transaxle, the only real wek point of the machine. no cracks, the fuel tanks would leak becuase the frame would crack in that area. ok fixing a rusty cab is a pain, and 7000 hours is a lot, otherwiae what would you guys pay? good tires, no real problems, but was not able to push it hard.

A lot depends on the internal conditon. 7,000hrs is a lot. What has the motor had done?(servicing, overhauls, maybe nothing) What condition is the hydraulic system in, particularly the pump?(even a new pump with a leaking system will still cause big problems though) Transmission and torque converter? I would need a serious assesment of all major sytems by a professional before laying out any cash for such a well used machine. If it's dirt cheap and your good with repairs, it may be a good find, but you must consider that most backhoes are pretty much finished around 9-10,000hrs. It always good just to be aware of how long you can expect it to last.
I wouldn't pay much more than $6,000-$8,000 unless it had documentation of recent major repair work, so I knew that it would be dependable, but some may disagree with that low of a number.

Is it 4x4? heat/ac? condition of the hoses will be a good sign if they kept with the maintence. I bought a 1995 426b turbo 4x4 with 2100 hrs (no cab) nice shape for 17500.
hope that helps.
