Hey Squizzy--You guys must really stink o'er there--what size is that vent pipe?Atmy boy scout camp a few years back, the council exec{mucky-muck} asked me to design and build a new 4 seater.Said it had to be handicapped accessible and state of the art, pretty, and all that--first building you see when you enter camp.Anyway,I'm a 1 finger typer so I'll shorten this up. The exec got 2 of these ridiculously expensive plastic holding tanks from Washington, all complete w/all this fancy/shmancy hardware along with 12'' vents.Well, that became the problem{1 of them:rolleyes: }--these vents were in the front facing the entrance--I had to bush down from that 12" to 4" penetrating the roof.Painted them same as building--about all I could do.Cost a fortune to do that plus the real kicker is there is no leaching with these tanks. When the girl scouts used to be there, they would use 2,000 gallons in a week.We used to tell this guy he and his tanks were full of****.:bouncegri :bouncegri

In my pics was my old 1200 Goldwing.
I'm actually bikeless at the time.I sold my 1800 Goldwing just recently(within the last month).
I don't know what I'm going to do.I'm thinking about possibly an Electra Glide. The Harley shop had a brand new one,for just under 16K,last winter, but they didn't want to give me nothing for mine.(like $8500:eek:  )so I sold it outright this spring, and ofcourse I've spent most the money already.:Banghead
I may wait till fall/winter before I go shopping.They'll be dealing then.:thumbsup
Here's a pic of a 75 ironhead sporty I had,and one of my more fun bikes.Road that to Sturgis 4 times. What a long ride.(still fun though)Although the straight pipe noise starts to dig into your brain after about 2hrs.

That reminds me of a skid operator I know up in Darwin...a builder brassed him for a clean up job so he took his dump truck down to the port to a live cattle export ship. The cattle tend to get nervous and void themselves while they are being loaded so my mate got a 14 tonne dump truck load of the fresh steaming stuff and delivered it to the driveway of the builders flash new mansion. It made the local news.
Now let me see...yellow pages for MN...dump trucks...:bouncegri

Actually, if you are in fact, as we determined one time, 12 hours ahead of me, you posted that at 10:02 a.m. on July 5th, my time. That would have made it 10:02 p.m. July 5th, your time. Well my labourer didn't show on Friday (cause I paid him thursday night and its so hard to get out of bed when your still drunk) and I....(American expression) Fired his ....Ar....behind!. That way it took me two days to build a wall instead of one...working all day Saturday when school holidays are on just gets me in the good books everytime:mad:

Well, hopefully that freshly unemployed laborer will get his "act" together before he loses other, more important, things on account of his drinkin'.
So, do some Australian's have as hard a time accomplishing personal home projects as some of us Americans (ie., me)??
I've had plans to repaint the house for 3 years now. I won't need to do much scraping when I get to it though. The paint will probobly have fallen off by then.:bouncegri

That approach has it's pluses. My house was built in the 50's. It has the old screw in type fuses, no ground outlets, very little insulation, on and on.
I think about fixing it up, but it might be better just to push it into the pond when it's completely dilapidated, and pull in one of those new modular two piece homes. They're getting pretty nice now adays.:thumbsup

If you haven't noticed, with women..it doesn't matter if you have a valid excuse...you screwed up and thats their excuse to get cranky with you. Saturday night
Saturday night
Saturday night
Saturday night
Saturday night's already old
Walking into Sunday, and I find
All desires are cold
I could walk forever, I don't mind
Show me a light, your company
Goes a little way to help me see
The path on which I'm bound
Rather than the things I leave behind
I've got the keys to the city
Baby
I can feel my luck
I got two days' money
If you light me up
This heart will shine on
"L'esclavage D'amour
It will be ours forevermore"
Words we both recall
Either from a lover, or the law
Saturday night, my steps have shown
I can walk away from all I've know
Goodnight, my friend, goodbye
Remember what they say,
When you're alone, laugh or die

Steve Earle, does he come from down under? After you mentioned him, I recall a "bagpipe" sound in the Copperhead Road song. AC/DC has it too on a couple of their earlier ones(long way to the top), so I thought maybe bagpipes were used down there.

Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me.
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
BTW, right now here it's 74 degrees F, humidity 56%, partly cloudy and the visibility is 10 miles or better.... ***

How can you even breath when it's that hot, Farmerted44??
Squizzy, I know you like AC/DC, and bagpipes(strangled cats), so here's one for you based on "Long way to the top (if you wanna rock-n-roll):
Long way to the top(if you're building limestone walls)
(verse 1)
Riding down the highway, heading to the site,
can't get in the skid steer, locked the keys in it last night,
get a rock, bust it in,
no more AC, just the wind,
drunken helper, never shows,
I tell ya folks, this job it really blows,
(chorus)
It's a long way to the top, if you're building limestone walls,
It's a long way to the top, if you're building limestone walls,
funny how bills still can make it through,
but we ain't been paid yet, 90 days past due,
It's a long way to the top, if you're building limestone walls.
(verse 2)
Waiting for the rental, when will it get here?
the bucket almost fell off, and it's hard too steer,
start the loading, tires dig,
burns more fuel, what a pig!!
loading slows down, day gets long,
traction control?, "I won't talk about it in this song!!":rolleyes:
(chorus) again,
(then alternate guitar riffs, and squeeze the bag-o-cat's a bit)
(verse 3)
Going on vacation, got the family in the car,
kids won't stop their screaming, stop to see an old Hart-Parr,
On a budget, campings cheap,
freeze your arse off, too cold to sleep,
plastic chairs, and folding tent,
Two weeks later, feels like they never went.
(chorus again)(then lead guitar, and a full blown cat strangling)
Enjoy Squizzy!!:bouncegri

No, I'm done for awhile, two original songs/poems a year is the limit at HEF.
section 56, sub-part 111, of HEF official forum rules
"Rule 89: No more than two songs, or poems, of original nature may be posted by any memeber, or member affiliate, in any one calendar year"
I already had the "Toga" one on another thread, so........... Orchard will have too make that "Big Walls" song up himself. Sounds like he's already a good start too it.:thumbsup

Not that it has anything to do with anything , but since we're having this nice little sing-along in this tread, here's one of my favorites. It's a pretty obscure one, by Chris Rea: "Working on it". Some days it just seems like the song of the day...
Oh how i'd love it girl, just you and me
Take the day and fly
But oh this job, it's got the best of me
Tell you why, tell you why
Somebody above is in a desperate state
Some kind of urgency, the kind that won't wait
I say tomorrow, he say today
And the man in my head well he tell me no way
Keep working
I got eight little fingers and only two thumbs
Will you leave me in peace while i get the work done
Can't you see i'm working
Oh, oh i'm working on it
Oh, oh i'm working on it
Well they're coming from above me
And they're coming from below
Yea they're in there right behind me
Everywhere that i go
And my buddy, he's screaming down the telephone line
He say gimme, gimme, gimme
I say i ain't got the time
Oh, oh can't you see i'm working on it
Oh, oh i'm working on it
Yea, yea, oh tell 'em
How i'd love it girl, just you and me
Take the day and fly
But oh, this job it's got the best of me
Tell you why
Well they're coming from above me
And they're coming from below
Yea they're in there right behind me
Everywhere that i go
My buddy, he's screaming down the telephone line
He say gimme, gimme, gimme
I say i ain't got the time

Just take those old tracks off the shelf
I'll sit and fit them by myself
Today's Machines ain 't got the same soul
I like that old Iron rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to an expo
You'll never even get me into the cab
I’d rather be laid on a slab
I like that old Iron rock'n' roll
Still like that old machine rock'n' roll
That kind of traction just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old Iron rock 'n' roll
Won't play that new computer fango
I'd rather hear growling diesel soul
There's only one sure way to get me to go
Start playing old Iron rock 'n' roll
Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill
Today's machines ain't got the same soul
I like that old Iron rock 'n' roll
Still like that old iron rock'n' roll
That kind of power just soothes the soul

Here's an unadulterated one for those poor Trucking souls out there, its Slim Dusty as mentioned prev:
OH YES IT'S A LONG STRAIGHT ROAD AND THE ENGINE IS DEEP
I CAN'T HELP THINKING OF A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP
AND THE LONG LONG ROADS OF MY LIFE ARE A CALLIN' ME
THESE ROUGH OL' HANDS ARE GLUED TO THE WHEEL
MY EYES FULL OF SAND FROM THE WAY THEY FEEL
AND THE LIGHTS COMIN' OVER THE HILL ARE A BLINDIN' ME
IT'S A LONG TOUGH HAUL FROM A WAY DOWN SOUTH
A MANS GOTTA FIND A LITTLE BREAD FOR HIS MOUTH
AND A HOME FOR A GIRL AS SWEET AS MY HONEY CAN BE
SO IT'S DOWN THROUGH THE GEARS SHE'S A STARTIN' TO PULL
THE GAUGE ON THE TANK IS SHOWIN' NEAR FULL
AND THE LIGHTS COMIN' OVER THE HILL ARE A BLINDIN' ME
THERE'S RAIN ON THE ROAD I CAN FEEL THE LOAD START A SHIFTIN' IN A DANCE
TOO LATE I SEE THE POST AND I HAVEN'T GOT A GHOST OF A CHANCE, OH OH OH NO!
THE WINDSCREEN WIPERS ARE A BEATIN' IN TIME
THE SONG THEY SING IS A PART OF MY MIND
AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S A REALLY HPENING TO ME
OH BUT I'M OVER THE EDGE AND DOWN THE MOUNTAINSIDE
I KNOW THEY'LL TELL ABOUT THE NIGHT I DIED
IN THE RAIN WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE HILL WERE A BLINDIN' ME, HEY!
THERE'S RAIN ON THE ROAD I CAN FEEL THE LOAD START A SHIFTIN IN A DANCE
TOO LATE I SEE THE POST AND I HAVEN'T GOT A GHOST OF A CHANCE, OH OH OH NO
THE WIND SCREEN WIPERS ARE A BEATIN' IN TIME
THE SONG THEY SING IS A PART OF MY MIND

:) Well, gee, as long as we're killing truck drivers, here's Harry Chapin singing about 30,000 pounds of bananas:
It was just after dark when the truck started down
the hill that leads into Scranton Pennsylvania.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Carrying thirty thousand pounds (hit it Big John) of bananas.
He was a young driver,
just out on his second job.
And he was carrying the next day's pasty fruits
for everyone in that coal-scarred city
where children play without despair
in backyard slag-piles and folks manage to eat each day
about thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, just about thirty thousand pounds (scream it again, John) .
He passed a sign that he should have seen,
saying "shift to low gear, a fifty dollar fine my friend."
He was thinking perhaps about the warm-breathed woman
who was waiting at the journey's end.
He started down the two mile drop,
the curving road that wound from the top of the hill.
He was pushing on through the shortening miles that ran down to the depot.
Just a few more miles to go,
then he'd go home and have her ease his long, cramped day away.
and the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes the smell of thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
He was picking speed as the city spread its twinkling lights below him.
But he paid no heed as the shivering thoughts of the nights
delights went through him.
His foot nudged the brakes to slow him down.
But the pedal floored easy without a sound.
He said "Christ!"
It was funny how he had named the only man who could save him now.
He was trapped inside a dead-end hellslide,
riding on his fear-hunched back
was every one of those yellow green
I'm telling you thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
He barely made the sweeping curve that led into the steepest grade.
And he missed the thankful passing bus at ninety miles an hour.
And he said "God, make it a dream!"
as he rode his last ride down.
And he said "God, make it a dream!"
as he rode his last ride down.
And he sideswiped nineteen neat parked cars,
clipped off thirteen telephone poles,
hit two houses, bruised eight trees,
and Blue-Crossed seven people.
it was then he lost his head,
not to mention an arm or two before he stopped.
And he smeared for four hundred yards
along the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania.
All those thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
You know the man who told me about it on the bus,
as it went up the hill out of Scranton, Pennsylvania,
he shrugged his shoulders, he shook his head,
and he said (and this is exactly what he said)
"Boy that sure must've been something.
Just imagine thirty thousand pounds of bananas.
Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of mashed bananas.
Of bananas. Just bananas. Thirty thousand pounds.
of Bananas. not no driver now. Just bananas!"
Just, to, you know, cheer everybody up...

Oh alright...here's some real prose for the cowgirls & boys:
Turbulence
Here's a tale of Billy Hays from out near Alice Springs
A wild young fellow, he'd done some crazy things
He'd bucked bulls over fences, rode a colt up Ayrs Rock
See his legs weren't made for walking they were made for riding stock
A legend round the rodeo from Allaroon to Broom
An untired horse at 6am was saddle broke by noon
No form of equine foolery he wasn't game to try
Only one thing ever spooked him,
He was so scared to fly.
Well if I was meant to fly he said
I'd have feathers and a beak,
You fly and waste a day and I'll drive and waste a week
I hear they're safe as houses and mechanically they're sound
But I don't see no rope or bridle so I'm staying on the ground
One day Bill got a call from his mate in Adelaide,
He'd got his girl in trouble and the wedding cards were played
He said, Mate I don't care how you do it you can beg or steel or borrow
But Mate you're gunna have to catch the plane, coz the big day is tomorrow.
Billy cursed and spat it "That dopey bloody coot!
He knows I'll jump on anything that's coming out a chute
I've caught stallions that'd kill you, caught bulls gone off their brain
But I never thought there'd come a day I'd have to catch a plane!"
Bill legged it to the airport and thought "Well this is it"
The lady at the counter asked "Where would you like to sit?"
He said "You know that black box thing they always seem to find
"Well you can stick me right in side it if you wouldn't bloody mind"
She gave a friendly smile and "Sir I'll just take your bag"
He said "I don't bloody think so, 'n by the way it's called a swag."
Bill was sweatin' buckets when they finally cleared the strip
He had his seatbelt on that tight he was bleedin' from the hip
But then they levelled out he stopped shakin at the knees
Looked around , relaxed 'n thought "This flyin' game's a breeze"
We clipped his belt undone, stretched out in his seat
Well he couldn't stretch that much 'cause his swag was at his feet.
Then the captain crackled something, Bill asked the hostess what was said
"Sir you'd better buckle up there's some turbulence ahead:
Turbulence - what's that?" "Sir it's pockets caused by heat
"And when it gets severe it can throw you from your seat."
"Throw me, I'll be buggered," Bill pushed his seat right back,
Wrapped his legs around his swag and stuck his left hand through the strap
He jammed down his Akubra, he was ready now to ride
Then things got pretty bumpy and Billy yelled "Outside!"
The plane she dropped a thousand feet, bounced up five hundred more
When his head hit the roof, his backside hit the floor!
"I've rode all through the Territory and never come unstuck
So give me all you've got big bird - buck you bastard buck!"
And while the passengers were screaming in fear of certain death
Billy whooped and hollered 'til he near ran out of breath
You would' thought that canvas swag was welded to his ass
And before the ringer knew it he's bucked up to business class
There seemed no way to tame this creature, it had ten gears and reverse
But that didn't worry Billy, he just bucked on through to first
He did somersaults with twists on this mongrel mount from hell
He yelled out to the pilot "for Christ sake ring the bell!"
Bill was bleeding from the bugle, he had cuts above both eyes
If you weren't there on the spot ya probably think I'm tellin' lies
He'd been upside down and inside out, done flips and triple spins
Ya might a' seen some great tides in your time but hands down Billy wins
The flight returned to normal, Bill was flat out on the deck
Still stuck to his swag but he looked a bloody wreck
He pulled himself together, stood up straight and raised his hat
He said "I've had some tough trips in me day but never one like that."
"an eight-second spin in Alice proves your made of sturdy stuff
But I was on there a near a minute and I reckon that's enough."
The first class folk were dumbstruck at this crazy ringer's feat
but Bill just grabbed a XXXX beer and walked back to his seat.
Now years have passed and Bill's long give the buckin' game away
Too many breaks and dusty miles for far too little pay
Now plane's are not a worry, in fact he'd rather fly than ride
"N when you talk about his maiden voyage his chest puffs out with pride
"You can talk about your Rocky Neds or that old Chainsaw bloke
I'd ride 'em both without a rope and roll a bloody smoke
There's cowboys 'round who think they're hot, well they aint tasted heat
"Til they've ridden time on Turbulence at 30 3000 feet."
Footnote: an "Akubra" is a stockmans hat and XXXX really is a brand of beer.
"Chainsaw" was/is a legend Australian Rodeo Bull...so named for the subtle manner in which he performed.

Amazingly little. The tree came down between the ROPS and the hoe boom, bent the canopy and scraped up the paint, but everything still works. One of the trusses came down along the side of the Pete so close that it took the chrome off the edge of the mirror, but that's all I've seen damaged so far. I need to clean everything up but - no power so no water - til late today.
2 bays of the barn are toast though.
Could've been a lot worse.

about 60 miles up the haul road above Fairbanks is as far as we got this time.
There was about 2 miles of construction north of Haines junction that was under repair. I posted a few pictures of the off road trucks last week. and a few shorter streches of gravel but otherwise the roads were great shape.. I think there was less then 5 miles of gravel total this trip in a little under 3000 miles.
This is what most of the construction looked like. They are putting in a new bridge deck.

What you did is what I'd just love too do. Get a big RV, with about two months off, and head up to Fairbanks, or maybe further north if the road was good. Next go through Denali, down too Homer and Seward, and then back home.

I think my family and i were standing at the bottom of that hill last week. Want to hear is a pretty screwy story. On Thursday my mom stops by my work ant tells me my grandma passed away, so i tell the boss im taking the day off and head home. Later that day i hear on the news that the fishing vessel Ocean Challenger sank outside of Kodiak Alaska, im thinking crap another one on the same day, as my dad owns the boat. I finally get ahold of him later that night and he wasnt on the boat, but 3 other people died and only one person lived. It was blowing 50 and 30 foot seas, boat shouldnt have rolled in those conditions but it did, went down in 5 minutes. Then ontop of that my dad gets a call from my aunt saying that her dog died!

Sigh..Friday again...all alone on HEF :crying
Went to work today full of plans for the days setting up for next week. First thing was stepped off truck bed onto a stack of pallets...but they weren't stacked straight so I went a**e over teacup head first down the side of the truck with one leg still hanging up over the drop side. I pulled a lot of muscles..hamstring is not good, wrist just about snapped, bashed my head on a pallet followed by a 22.5" Yokohama. No much blood..I can still walk...Labourer is trying not to laugh.
So off we go to the jobsite setting up for the :cussing :cussing :cussing wall I have to re-build because people are more interested in getting home early on Fridays and vertical doesn't really mean vertical does it ??:Banghead :Banghead . I go to climb down the wall with a profile in my hand but the stay butterfly is not tight so when the profile hits the ground the stay swings around and bashes me in the head...this time there is blood everywhere and I'm really getting  and the air is turning blue for the :cussing
I get cleaned up and we decide to do something where I wont kill or maim myself. The labourer is by this stage becoming anatomically disfunctional on account of he's gunna bust something trying not to laugh at me...but hes holding it back well cause he knows I can still get him with a shovel.
Anyway, we decide to put up the scaffolding for the parapet wall. I went to knock a glut under one of the stands with a small sledge hammer and completley miss and smash my fingers on the frame...only two nails have gone black so far...but it was at the point that I bashed my fingers that I stood up and bashed my already bleeding head on the scaffold planking which..in this case, happens to be steel.
The labourer is considering running away at this stage on account of he thinks there is a lot of tools around which could become missiles and I still have at least one working arm!
On arrival at home SWMBO looks my battered, bruised and bleeding body up and down then says (matter-o-fact like) "Had a nice day at work dear?"
After a hot bath, antiseptic and elostoplast and stiff whiskey I'm considering its a good thing they don't give out free shotguns with new excavators down here because I'd have to spend the whole weekend fixing all my equipment and burying my best labourer.
So..if your having a bad day..just relax and smile because somewhere in this world somebody is having a crappier one.
Fridays...Bah Humbug!

I had a good day too Squizzy. When I arrived a my store to deliver my load, I hooked to the empty trailer, pulled it out, and check to make sure it was empty.
It wasn't, the store left the roller track system for unloading the trailer in the trailer. While I was backing back into the dock to unload it I noticed the truck seemed like it started working harder to back up. I pushed in the clutch, and it rolled forward abit(a bad sign)
I jumped out to see "wut up", and here the track system (which is on wheels) had rolled out of the trailer onto the pavement and I was squishing it between the building and the ICC bumper.:crying
It was totally ruined. I don't know how much it's gonna cost, but they're gonna have fun unloading the trailers by hand till they get a new one delivered.:Banghead

We roll up today to dig a strip footing, pour and generally get ready to do a front feature wall for a new house on a rural property. The unfunny thing is the old fence is still there and the grass has not been cut out, levelled and compacted etc etc. I could have done all this myself but the Builder (GC) has his own guys, Bobcat, truck and compactor so its his call. They turn up an hour late and start work...I'm fuming cause I told the builder on Monday that I had ordered the agitator trucks for 10am:mad: .
Anyway, we get on with it because there is no point whining. I put back the trucks to midday, which always makes you popular with the scheduler. Eventually the concrete trucks coming up the road when I look in the truck for the floats and remember my eager beaver labourer took them out at the shed the previous day:Banghead I send him off in the loaner truck we currently have until my little dumper arrives...if it ever does (Santa Please).
Anyway, first agitator arrives and hes a nice bloke, we run the chute while he drives along and he does a great job. Second truck arrives and I have got say this guy really not do the truck drivers cause much good. He backs up and runs over one of my line pegs, gets the chute setup and operates the remote control so that 1/2 a metre of concrete goes nowhere near its supposed to. I say "its alright mate..we didn't really want it in the trench" Anyway he can't seem to drive the truck parrallel to the trench and run the agitator so we do it in stops and starts and he very nearly goes overtime (which is then going to cost me $1.76 per minute thereafter). He says "see you next time" and I'm thinking there is plenty of other concrete companies around for next time.
In the middle of all this my eager beaver labourer calls up to say the clutch in the loaner truck has crapped itself but he has 4th gear and reverse sometime:spaz :spaz ....I'm thinking why oh why did I go for a concrete pour on Friday??. Its hot as hell, dusty and there is a million flys to keep us company. The pour is going off like a three week old raw prawn when the builder wheels into the driveway in his 4x4 and runs over my level:Banghead :Banghead
On the drive home (in 4th gear) we got beer and I contemplated cancelling fridays and just starting the week on Sunday.

The unfunny thing is the old fence is still there and the grass has not been cut out, levelled and compacted etc etc. I could have done all this myself but the Builder (GC) has his own guys, Bobcat, truck and compactor so its his call. They turn up an hour late and start work...I'm fuming cause I told the builder on Monday that I had ordered the agitator trucks for 10am .
That's why I won't bid jobs involving other contractors or the homeowner. I either do it start to finish or I don't do it. I can't afford the wasted time, nor guarantee a job where others have done a portion of it.

Well the poured footing worked out OK and its generally been a good job....can't go wrong...us out in the middle of a field with 7 cows, 9 horses and 40 million flies:Banghead ...rain or 95 deg...no problem...Friday came and is almost gone without me shedding any blood:eek:
Got home about 4ish...well in time to drop the truck and mini-ex off before going to the Hardware for chrissy drinks and a bar-b-Q.....only thing is I managed to take out the power lines into our house when reversing the truck in the drive.:Banghead
Now this loaner truck is on 17.5" rubber and my Yanmar is lower than the Kubota 161 which has been reversed up my drive about 220 times...on the single axle Mitsubishi which is on 22.5" rubber....  ..anyway."procrastinating"...I got the lines and blacked out the house...no point putting lipstick on the pig...I screwed up big time.
So...being a true red-bloodeed aussie male I called the power company...organised the repairs and shot through to the hardware for drinkies. I came home several hours later much the merrier only to find the house in darkness....a manilift turned up awhile later and we are now back on the grid. I can't really see what the problem was but...Women though...see the necessity to make us males pay for our sins...apparently consumation of the wedding nuptials is off the menu for awhile:confused:  :o :o

There is momentary carelessness, and there is gross stupidity. I don't know which of those was at play as you took down your power line, but leaving the missus at home in the dark while you went out for a few cold ones is evidence of a death wish! :Pointhead
(About your "lipstick on a pig" reference, and the activities that go along with marital bliss--the pig might be your only option for a while. I hope you can find a shade you like...)

I had a neighbor stop by the house one winter day just after I got home from trucking. I thought it was odd that he stopped by, he doesn't stop by often. After some idle chit chat he says "Do you know you just pulled down the line from the pole to my house with your truck?"
I said "No!!". He say's "It's no big deal, I called and they're on their way out too fix it now. I just wanted to let you know."
I knew I wasn't normally missing them by much, but the frost and the snow build up on the road must have taken out the extra clearance. My trailer is 13'6", but I thought by law the lines were all supose to be higher than that for just this reason.:beatsme
No-one contacted me about trying to get me to pay for it later, so............??
Squizzy, what that about getting drinks at the "Hardware"? Is your fav-o-rite watering hole named "The Hardware Store", just so guys can say "Honey, I'm going to the Hardware Store" and not be lying??:bouncegri

Thanks for the forum Steve...its the best.
Best wishes from Down Under....and I thought I'd leave you guys with a good Aussie christmas carol:
In australia, christmas comes in the middle of a very hot summer
so when santa claus delivers his presents
he's not taken around by reindeer because
they can't stand the terrible heat
he's taken around by six big, white, old man kangaroos
called the six white boomers
early on one christmas day
a joey kangaroo
was far from home and lost
in a great, big zoo
mommy....where's my mommy?
they've taken her away
we'll help you find your mommy, son
hop up on the sleigh
so up inside the bag of toys
little joey hopped
but they hadn't gone far when santa stopped
unharnessed all the reindeer
and joey wondered why
then he heard a far off booming in the sky
(boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom)
[chorus]
six white boomers
snow white boomers
racing santa claus through the blazing sun
six white boomers
snow white boomers
on his australian run
pretty soon old santa began to feel the heat
took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
into one popped joey
feelin' quite okay
while those old man kangaroos kept pullin' on the sleigh
hey!
[chorus]
then joey said to santa, "santa, what about the toys?
aren't you giving some to these girls and boys?"
"well, they've all had their presents, sonny
we were here last night
this trip is an extra trip
joey's special flight
[chorus]
soon the sleigh was flashing past
right over marble bah
"slow down there!" cried santa
"it can't be far
hop up on my lap here, son
and have a look around"
"there, there she is!
that's mommy! bounding up and down!"
[chorus]
well, that's the bestest christmas treat
that joey ever had
curled up in mother's pouch feeling snug and glad
the last they saw was santa heading northwards from the sun
the only year the boomers worked a double run
[chorus]

Well, I've been in a crappy mood for a few days, and haven't been around here as much, (as a couple of you have noticed) but I think I now figured out what my problem was.
Suprisingly it had nothing to do with long winter nights (cabin fever), or having too much free time on my hands during my "slow" period, or the fact that I'm a near 40ish balding guy who may have been realizing that my youth will never be regained, and that I'm now on the downhill side of life.
It wasn't any of that.:nono No, it's because I didn't have a Harley to ride.:yup
So I fixed that, and now everything's gonna be mo betta.:thumbsup

What is wrong with the hog? didn't it come with wheels? or is something already broken?
Harley riders ride them they don't trailer them.
Back in the day I use to ride mine year around. Remember a trip from Kalispell Montana to Great Falls on ice and snow pack. Snow pack was ok but I went down 13 times in 1/4 mile on the ice. had to ride on the sholder in the snow till I got past the rest of it. Only time that machine seen a truck or trailer was when it droped a valve with only 500 miles on it. I think that was on a friday also..

.....and the client had a 1970 Ford LTD sitting on the lawn rusting....I imagine the "sitting on the lawn rusting" part, down there, is alot different than here, being you're in the desert?
Here in Mn., when they're rusting, they're rusting. It's the *poof-car all gone* type of rusting. The 70's era cars didn't fair too well here, with all the rock salt used on the roads.
I had a 460 in a '73 Lincoln Mark 4. It was a good engine, had plenty of power, but used alot of fuel. IIRC, about 8-10mpg around town, and low teens on the highway. It probobly would be best to keep the 351 motor in there, if they were good engines.:beatsme
(Ford had 351 W's, C's, M's. What were the main differences? I'm not really "up" on those Ford motors)

I'm not a real motorhead but the Windsor eights have less V angle than the Clevelands. It was generally accepted I think that the Windsor's were nice and smooth whereas the Clevelands went a bit harder. I had a 351 Cleveland in what we call a Phase II specification. That was a lovely engine.
So Mr Midlife Crisis...where's the bloody pics of the chaff cutter...Oh ..I mean Harley:rolleyes: ... see ...men's problems are easy fixed...just buy a Harley or an old Ford and WhallaaHHH..problem solvered :D:thumbsup. Now if you bought an old ford or a Harley for a woman you'd probably be in more trouble than when you started:yup

Rolling Rock is now made in New Jersey, presumably with authentic New Jersey spring water...
So, what happed to the "glass lined tanks of old Latrobe"? Do we get to know what that damn "33" is for now? I must say that a "bucket o' rocks" made for a most aromatic cab the next day for some reason. :drinkup :dizzy
Looks like 1 out of three then...those Pete's must be good trucks then:wink2
So, Jeff's shovel-head is only good for leaning on?;)

Is this here Motiesicle a work in progress..or is it full on ready for the highway??.Yup, It's all ready to go. I might change the handle bars, and add a kicker,(it's only electric now) but that's about it.I'm surprised that you didn't just put it in the Target trailer and bring it home. They put seals on them so I can't open the doors while in transit.:crying
