Nice, friendly site you have here. I'm a homeowner who just picked an '86 Cat 416 4WD with the standard single-piston front bucket. I'm wondering how much of a job a conversion to a 4 in 1 bucket might be (and where I might find a used one). I live in New Hampshire and between the rocks and the stumps, it seems to me that a 4 in 1 would be a practical addition. Advice?:)

Welcome!

The real issue is not concerning the single cylinder front bucket linkage, but if you have a thrid valve or not. The third valve is what provides the hydraulic hook up and controls for the 4 in 1 bucket. The bucket will cost about the same amount for different configurations, but adding a third valve could add some expense and difficulty to the project.

Wayne,

We have a 86' 426 that we took the 4 in 1 bucket of and put on a 416 general purpose bucket on. The bucket is in good shape. We will sell it if you find out about your hydraulics.

I have a 1990 Cat 416 2wd. The front bucket is now intermittent in raising up and down. The tilt works fine and the rear bucket woks fine, it is just the front up and down. Any suggestions????:usa

416guy,

The first thing I would check if all other hydraulic functions are normal is the linkage from the handle in the cab to the valve, for adjustment or something being bent.

Thanks Nick, I have already done that. I removed the joystick cover and everything is moving properly. I traced the lines front to back and there is no damage to either side.
