Whats the weight of that load of mulch ?
it is 38 cubic metres and i jam it in by pushing down with the excavator while loading, have never weighed a load bit im guessing is is around 15 metric tonnes

Is there any value in the chips over there? Here they are bringing about 35 dollers a ton right now.

no, it is worth nothing, usually when we grind they lose it around the job, occasionally when they want it removed we charge to take it away,we deliver it to any one who wants it at no charge to get rid of it.

I'll have some too, Pete. You'd get to have a good look around, sitting up there in the Mack. I will put a bit of fuel in the tank.:D
It surprises me that there isn't a market for mulch, being so close to Sydney and with all the emphasis on saving water through mulching gardens.
Why is that Pete, is there an over supply of mulch?
Rn'R.

You know Rn'R... there could be an over supply of mulch. So I think somebody needs to ask Pete...
How much mulch will a mulcher mulch if a mulcher will mulch much mulch in a month?
Or, to make it easier.
Will a mulcher mulch much mulch in a month?
And, Rocks... ask him three times... real fast... :cool2
Those are good pictures Pete... I'm just being the usual clown... lol

if i am using the 16 tonne excavator i use the mud bucket to load mulch, grad is narrow and does not pick up much mulch, if using the 20 tonne exc we use the grab, it picks up heaps more, much prefer to use the grab, it is much easier, we dont deliver to Qld for free oversize however if you are passing through we will happily load it on you for free..

there is an over supply RnR, there is all the mulch generated at tips where all the greenwaste that comes in is mulched as well as the clearing/mulching we do which is genarally clearing for subdivisions, on top of that is all the mulch generated by tree loppers with chippers, mulch from a chipper is more uniform and smaller than the stuff we produce, i believe those guys can usually sell thiers for arounf $10 per cubic metre.

im glad you asked that question, he may or may not, depending on many matters, having said that let me say this, if he is a good mulcher he will make much mulch in a month of mulching merrily.

I think it may be a bit hard to load on to a low loader Pete,

would be easy to load OS, nice and low with no sides, you would have the hard part keeping it on.

These enviroMENTAL fools really get to me , they demand woodwaste is not burned but rather mulched or chipped , because of it's high "value added" appeal , then it is dumped at a landfill . If they want everything chipped or mulched , why are there not more power stations etc geared up to use it as fuel ? Every pound of Bio Fuel used for power generation is a pound of Coal that can stay in the ground , isn't that what they want ?

I agree, Iron Horse, you would think that it would have some commercial value. I wished I had access to some of it, I could find a market here for it, and I guess there is the problem, the cost of the freight and handling, getting the mulch to where it is needed. The supply might run out fairly quickly once you started feeding a power station. EZ TRBO posted a photo of a power station in his thread, that was being converted from coal to wood, and it was going to use 70 semi loads of wood mulch a day. That would chew through the mulch supply fairly quickly. I wonder if there is such a thing as a dual fuel power station.

Loved your comment about the environMENTAL fools. That was pretty funny.
There are power plants in Central California that can burn wood that they take when they chop down old almond orchards and the same plants can burn old automobile tires (or tyres as some would spell it) to produce electricity. They are interchangable between biomass and waste like rubber.
The big investor owned utilities are required under US federal law to purchase all of the electricity produced by plants like this. Still, I think a lot of the wood just ends up getting burned in the fields because it is so expensive to truck it away----and some people just like playing with fire, I guess.

The sugar mill at chinder has been converted to run on bio mass and I have taken a chipper and excavator with tree sheer into the area as there is some harvesting the camfarlorlo (spelling ) trees to use as fuel as they can not get enuff cane waste, I know the bordwater mill has been converted as well I think they may be still doing harwoods mill

I would be happy to take the Camphor Laurel chips to the mill for power production but what incentive is there to do so ? For me to hire or supply my own semi tipper , pay wages , fuel and running costs , i would need to get a thousand dollars a load . Is it worth that sort of money to them or do they expect it for nothing ? It's all a scam , all this green fuel caper . The amount of fossil fuel burnt to haul gear to and from the site , bring down the trees , chip them , load the chips , haul the chips to the mill , it would be cheaper and probably greener to power the mill with Dinosaur poo in the first place .

it is a bit of a joke mulching all those trees, not much mulch is recycled in a useful way, however im not complaining because it it was all burnt i would have to find another profession.

Don't know how much the mill pay's from what I was told is that they come and cut down the Camphor laurel trees for free and then mulch them and haul them to the mill, There Was a green waste power station near our depot up her on the coast appears to have been shut down or never really got going, and the land fills mulch but don't know where it used, All i know is a get to keep hauling chippers and mulches around so iam happy

I buy bark mulch from the local sawmill here in town. He charges $8 a yard so it is reasonable, it is just the waste from the de-barker so at least he is making a few bucks "cash" off of it. The flat landers here love it and i have been putting it in their yards and on small banks where they dont want to mow. Just shows one mans waste is another man treasure.

I used to work for one of the largest wood chip prouducers in the central valley ALW enterprizes no one in the right mind burns anymore.
