Mixing hydraulic oils? Any petroleum experts here?

I posted this under "Excavators" but thought it would be worth a try here as well.

This is on my Hitachi EX270LC excavator. It has a rather expensive multigrade (Petro-Canada Hydrex XV) hydraulic oil in it now. I don't use the machine in the winter, so would rather not pay the $100 a pail for the multigrade oil. But I don't want to change all 300 litres of oil right now to a cheaper single grade oil.

For topping up the hydraulic tank, I'm thinking of using something like Shell Tellus T32. Most important is not to damage the pumps or anything else.

Can anyone tell me if it is OK to mix the Shell Tellus T32 with the Petro Canada multigrade? And is the Shell Tellus 32 a good choice for the Hitachi excavator?

Mixing the two would be fine. If Hitachi calls for Iso 32 the tellus line up will preform satisfactorily.

Schaffer has not gotten back to me. Can you advise what would be Type C3 with a viscosity of SAE 15W-40 or SAE 30.

Pelican Roost,

An ISO 100 would be the equivalent to a SAE 30 weight engine oil, and an ISO 150 would be the equivalent to an SAE 40 weight engine oil.
