Sorry about the pictures, there not the best.A communication's company that we do dirt work for called me about using the grove to check out some tower sites. We install an antenna with a rotor on the jib.The communication and rotor wires hang off the jib and run to a computer in the van.The technision then rotates the antenna and monitors the quality of the signals, all the information is stored and processed in the computer. It takes about 2 hours. Its a good way to check out the site before the company commits to leasing the site from the landowner. In pic #3 is the antenna holder I made for the jib.

The only excitement I had was when the technician pulled in rite under the headache ball,it cleared his van by 4 inches. It was interesting watching him on his computer picking up the signals.

Thanks TheKid.With the money involved In building a tower site A crane is a good way to take a look at the signal quality. It also helps determin the tower height , and type of tower, free standing or guided tower.

The communications company decided to go with the site we tested back in mid march of this year. The site has changed alot sense then,The tower is up and stone is down. Here are a few pics of us setting the precast utility building at the base of the tower. It's an 8'x14' building, that little rascle weighs 29,000 lbs.I had to bring some railroad ties to crib with on the right rear outrigger because it was on a fresh ditch that was dug in the day before the set.It all went well,Dang cold that morning .It takes alot of dirt moving, concrete,& iron to make computers, television,& telephones work.

Thanks ATCO,I had the heater on that morning as it was 16 degrees when we left the shop.I also done the dirtwork and some of the concrete work at the site. It's always interesting.

Nice looking job. Working in the cold is tough for some things. Does that Grove give any hydraulic problems when it is cold like that? Glad to see someone still working this year.

It all went well bill onthehill. The Grove dose fine in the cold.I plug the truck & house engines in the night before the set.I start both engines at the shop and let the house unit run as I am headed to the job so the hydraulic tank can be warming up.Then at the job I only pull about halfway back on the controls when setting up the crane as the oil in the lines & cylinders is still cold.Run the main drum up & down a few times until the truck & load show up.The heaters in the truck and crane work great. The cold weather on this job did work in our favor as the ground was froze about an inch deep helping the truck driver as a few times while backing in he got off the stone.Other then that He backed in and put the load right where I wanted it.
