Can't quite tell from the photo , is that Hot Saw chain wrapped around the drum ?

Top Dog

It is a saw chain, notice the small chips that are discharged, this makes it safe for roadways and high populated areas.

That's a neet idea ,a drum with saw chain on it.Simple yet effective.Any trouble with vines wrapping on the drum?

I doodled with the idea on paper once , a helical groove cut into a thick walled drum for the chain to sit in . It would need a quick release pin on each end so that it could be quickly removed for sharpening . I put it in the too "creative" basket because i thought the chain would get loose on the drum and give trouble . Have you resolved this issue , if an issue at all ?

What size carrier is that on? Looks like a good tool.

Minimax, we have built 4 of these. Working with a manufacturing company now to manufacture and market the cutter

Iron Horse we have solved the loose chain with a simple spring, so far it works great.

D5G we have it on a Link Belt 2650

It suprised me that a chain will last over 150 hrs before it needs sharping as long as it stays up in trees not on the ground.

Some of the prototypes we had early on did have trouble with vines we have since addressed that issue and have eliminated the problem.

how much flow does it require? what kind of pump do you run on it and what is the cutting width?

It only requires 25 gpm, cutting width is 34 in. the motor on it is a gear pump/motor

A chain will stay sharp for a long time if you can keep it in clean wood all the time.
We do our log bucking in the log yard by had with chainsaw's and in the wet season when they had mud on them you spend as much time sharping the saw as you do sawing. dennis:Banghead

Are you using( or do you have to have) a oil case drain line back to the tank also from the hydraulic motor ? Good luck:usa

We use motors without a case drain so it will hookup on just auxillary hyd. from the trackhoe.

As long as you can supply the required gpm and keep the oil cool there should not be any problem. It looks like a good tool Top Dog.

how much pressure do you need?

Top Dog

how much pressure do you need?

It will work on 2500 lbs, the motors are rated at 3500 lbs.

HeyUvaVT

so a max of 3500psi? that limits you some as to what you can install them on doesn't it? or do you just turn down the pumps on the carriers?

I dont think 3500 psi would limit the unit.that covers alot of equipment. If it became an issue, say the carrier put out 5000 psi ,Put a relief valve at the motor bypassing to the return. No need to adjust pressure on the carrier.

Topdog thats got to be one of the simplest ideas i've seen yet , and it looks very effective too ....would love to hear more about this attachment ...... how large of a diam. is the drum and what size of chain is that .... .404 ? ....how many feet do you need to cover the drum .....I ask this just to get an idea of opperating cost to replace the cutter system .....WOW !

They are going to be for sale soon we are working with some manufacturing companies now to build them. As for price somewhere less than 20K.

The drum is about 8 in diam. and the chain is BC11 with about 80 ft. as for the replacement of the chain it will go upwards of 300 hrs before sharpening.

I'm still Impressed, it looks a tad slow but that could be due to the excavators flow...... I don't know how to post You-tube clips but if you enter "Quadco mulcher"or "Quadco mower 1 BC 2009" look at the clips with the Cat excavator on it ....I'll post some pics of my Iron with the Quadco 54" head on it

Some pics ..... Top pic is the 72" Davco I use on my 314 size Cat excavator and on my A-300 Skid (pic shows old and new knives, 2 of the knives are hidden, once it starts to spin they are all 4 exposed) bottom is the Quadco 54" I used on my 320 CLU, it requires priority flow of 65 gpm

KSSS, we put the flow meter on it, and it was at ~3200psi ...the rotary only needed 30gpm to run
