Forgive me for my ignorance...I was just going through some info on my Freightliner and came across the Engine Operator's Guide. In reading through it, I realized that the MBE900 motor that's in the truck, is actually manufactured by Detroit Diesel. I had been under the impression that Mercedes was the mfr of the motor, thus the MBE designation. I'm happily surprised that this is a DT motor. Can anyone tell me the DT designation equivalent, eg DT466, etc. ?

John,my understanding is that the two manufacturers merged, but I'm not sure they've yet shared many common engine designs,YET.It may be in the works, but for now I believe is mostly a name thing.
Your engine is most likely a strictly Mercedes Benz designed motor, and wouldn't share any components with the Detriots.
One Detroit I believe was purely a Mercedes Benz design, was the Series 55,but that would be the other way around from what your looking at.
Detroit has their own designed motors, being Series 50,and Series 60,plus there may be some two strokes left in production also.
I wouldn't feel let down though,They both are well designed motors,in my opinion.I've owned two Series 60's and been very happy with their performance, and I know many truck drivers with the 450hp Mercedes who've been happy with them also.I think the Mercedes are slightly more efficient, and give better fuel mileage.
The DT466 is a International motor.Kinda fools ya with the "DT" designation, don't it.:yup
