I have the volvo ec140 and switched or attempted to switch the control hoses from backhoe style control to excavator style control. Problem is... now the left joystick when pulled to the right pulls the stick in!:spaz and the left joystick when puled straight back spins the machine to the right. Any thoughts on how to discern which two hoses are reversed out of the eight. All input appreciated!
Thanks, Scott.

call your dealer, get a hydraulic pilot control schematic, i don't know about volvo, but other manufacturers will show you which one goes where to make it do what you want to do... do you have an operator's manual with it?

Not sure exactly what they offer but pick your machine & you might find the right details in one of the manuals or products offered there. Good luck.

Dayexo - Thanks for the info the dealer is supposed to be getting back to me with a solution. I switched hoses to begin with based on a fax they sent me. But the fax said switch hoses at fitting #'s 2 & 4 and 6 & 8. So the original picture did not list what fitting went to what function.:beatsme

BRL - Thanks for the link. The pdf files are for the manual (of which I had gotten one back when i got the machine to have as much info as possible to maintain it.)

Thanks again, Scott

What year is the machine? We have a 2000 Kobelco 70 SR and there was no hoses to undo, just just switching the electronics around by jockying some plugs. not sure if you have that type control. hope that helps ya some, GOOD LUCK! :thumbsup

I don't know how old the machine is but all the modern machines have a pattern changer lever, normally down at your right foot somewhere under the seat or outside just above the undercarriage. This will change from SAE (often called John Deere pattern) to ISO (Caterpillar) pattern.

The 2002 Volvo we hired had this feature.

nedly05 - thanks for the info. I wish it was as easy as electrical plugs, but the dealer was the one who gave me the original info. He said it is just pilot hoses.

Squizzy - It's a 2001 model and it doesn't have the pattern changer. when I called the service dept at my dealers the manager said I work up a quote for a changer installed. I said wooooo:slomo I don't intend to change it again just help me get it back to excavator pattern I've learned my lesson.:Banghead Your right though most of the excavators I've run previously have had the lever changer... quick and easy.:yup

sure like to know how you switched the controls on a Sk70sr excavator have worked for a dealer for last 33years and we have had kobelco since they came into this country and the electrics are just for pump and engine control joy sticks are pilot from the old ones right up to the new dynamic acera and sr machines

Nedly05 - I haven't yaken any pictures yet but will soon.

Update - dealer mechanic came out this morning to straighten out my hoses. There isn't any special technique to getting them straight, he did have a vacuum pump to keep the fluid from leaking oout every time a hose is disconnected. When I stopped by the yard to find him there he had been there about 2.5 hours already and was no where near done yet:eek2 but this afternoon it was like new and he was gone.:yup

I don't know about the States but in Canada you have to be pretty careful about switching joystick controls due to the liability issues if some greenhorn hopped aboard and killed someone. I know that some dealers will make you sign their workorder before switching a Hitachi or similar unit to Deere controls

Memory is a bit foggy here, but I remember seeing a place to get stickers to place on the controls to notify other operators that a machine has had it's controls switched from what is normal for a particular machine.

A few years ago, I saw a big track hoe that had been switched, and there were about 50 signs, tags, and other notices posted on, in and around the hoe so that there was NO confusion as to what pattern operated that machine. You might want to consider something like the pilots use - a ribbon over the controls that has to be removed before you can operate - one of those "remove before flight" things. Know another guy who had one of those ribbons over the shift lever of his '69 Volkswagon. (But then, he was a private pilot, and also has a sticker that said "Do not open windows about 120 MPH.") As I remember that vintage bug had a red button on the dash that you pushed to test the brakes, and he told riders never to press it, as it was wired to the ejection seats.

We have a Kobelco sk60 and we had a hydraulic switch put in it. It just has to valves that you have to switch when you want to. The dealer also put on a little card holder in the cab, that hold a card that has the patterns on them.

You are supposed to change it whenever you switch the controls, but that rarely happens.

If you need a valve let me know, I can put you in contact with the dealer that we got ours from.
