I got out my camera today and took some pics of my two 613s, while they were at the yard. I did not get a good pic of the 613b but got a good one of the a.

At least they finally got the cab right, they B/C's had a cab designed for midgets! I assume an A is just as bad....

Wow if u look at the A then look at the 613g they have came along way. Who said scrapers have not evolved. The 613a has more room in the cab than the 613b, but the A model runs so much hotter, u can not touch the controls during the summer without a pair of gloves. For some reason i still prefer opperating the 613A. If i had a 613G i might change my mind.

Those old 613A's are another extinct machine in So-Cal. Would like to hear that 1160 V-8 they had an almost "Truck sound" to them. Built pretty well as some of those machines are pushing 30-35 years of service!

That machine has paid for itself a million times. I agree it is a well built machine our only problems we ever really have is a blown hydraulic line here and then. I think there is only one other contractor running a 613A. besides us. I see alot of 613Bs around here though.

G,day....I spent a week on a 613 back in ,75 when working on the Phosphate Hill railway construction. The lingering memory of it was the cramped operating position for my 6 foot frame. Was ever so thankfull when the 633 that I was normally operating came out of the workshop.
See ya....John.

Oh my back hurts just looking at those 613A's...:D, seem to recall bruised knees from the cramped little suckers as well.

I'm 6'3" and 290 pounds, I always feel like my right leg needs another joint or two to run those things. I admit they are handy for finish work, but I'll stick with my 627's...

if you could just elimanate the right knee, the 613s would be a lot better. I know what you mean though, 6'4" 300. I would rather have a ts14 than a 613.

I was lucky enough to be the first one to run after it left the cat dealership. Our company bought two and they brought this one for me to help fine grade the parking lots and other uses. If you look close enough one of the side windows was busted out. I left for one week for vacation, and it was broke when I came back. Needless to say I was pissed!

That is just typical for that to happen, it seems like u cant leve your equipment anyware. We had one job were somne kids were playing with there bb guns, and the target was our 140g. That was not a good morning, then to top it off they got in the cab and stole all the knobs off of the dam thing.

It took Cat until the current model to get a cab on a 613 that wasn't designed for a midget! Those things are no fun if you are 6' plus with any weight on you...but they are handy for finish work. Just don't get one with the muffler underneath, unless you really like the smell of burning oil for some reason.
Looks like yours are in much better shape than the ones I've been on.
Keep on scrapin'..alan627b

I agree with u on the muffler underneeth. Our 613B has that i admit it is alot quieter than our A but that thing is nothing but a pain. If it is not falling off it is cooking oil, we all know that those old machines leak some oil.

Just judging by the pics, it looks like maybe the 613C's Oakland pictured might have a larger cab than the B series. We have one badged as a C series, but it looks like the B's Bell142 pictured. It's possible it got the wrong decals, got a C model bowl on it, or the C model may have changed as the years rolled along. The C series pictured could be a lot later production than the beaters I've run. I know the one's I run aren't late models!

All of mine are 92x series 613c's THe bowls on them are the 93x series same bowls that are on the 8lj series. As for the bumpers i built those because i got tired of walking a dozer around a job just to give one a little bump out of a stump hole or push up a topsoil pile. built one for all three but took that one off for a little service work it just unpins.

It came to my attention recently there is such a thing as a 613 C Series 2, which got rid of the Cat/Ford designed 3208 and replaced it with the 3116, which necessitated a longer nose, and apparently a larger cab.
On a related note,
A buddy of mine just got bent over buying a 613C from Appell Equipment in Galva, Illinois.
Darn thing had so much blowby he filmed it the next day, it oiled the lens of the video camera!
If you want to see, look up Kansascat321 on Youtube and check for the 613 scraper videos.

I was wondering if you had any pics showing your neat little push blocks? I am the friend of alan627's that got shafted by appells in galva Il on a 613C. I am finally 2 months later about to get the engine swapped out and hope to finally get it in the dirt in the next week or so weather permitting. Also, any other words of wisdom for a newbie 613C owner? Mine, like yours, are 92X 93X bowls with the turbo 3208 in it. I plan to use my D5 to push load it when necessary. Any things to be watchful of on them, known problem areas and such? My research about them before buying shows them to be a pretty good machine overall, i just got screwed on mine because the dealer said it was a good ready to go to work machine and it delivered to me with the engine trashed...as my videos show that alan posted above in this thread, but i hope to have that problem solved in the next few days.

I will try to get some close up pics of the push blocks, had some guess i lost them over time. Sorry to here about your troubles man. Other than the 3208 they are tough machines. Keep a close eye on final drives, torque converter temp, and grease, grease, grease! The right side elevator hube bearing is real bad about going out. Depending on the serial # there are three different types, spend the money and retrofit (if needed) to the tapered roller bearings, then drill and tap the new cap for a grease fitting. Oh yea if motor was bad i would check the trans filter and magnetic trans filter.

Thanks for the reply and the insight. Ill look into that bearing and make sure it appears to be alright once i get it together and going. Other then fluid levels, what should i be watching for on final drives...and by final drives im assuming you mean the planetaries? One other question for you or anyone reading this that might know. I just got my inj pump back from having it checked out and re set to the machines original A.R. number specs. It came with the used replacement engine i bought out of a truck, so had to have the gov and advance and fuel rate and rpm etc set correctly...anyway, the pump i had that came with the machine did not have a anoroid on it, the one i just got did. I took both pumps in to the shop for them to build my new one out of. They sent me back a pump with the anoroid on it....both were turbo engines. I dont know if either of the pumps were correct for the 613C as the junk engine they sold it to me with was also out of a truck it turned out. Question is, do your or any ones 613C's with turbo engines have the anoroid valve on top of the pump? Its my understanding that the purpose of that is to control the smoke belching upon acceleration by limiting fuel delivery based on the turbo's boost level. I can see where it would be a good thing to have, as it will no doubt save fuel by not wasting it on overfueling the engine when i step down on it, and reduce the black clouds while working, but i can also see where in a industrial application like the scraper, it might be a bad thing if it causes power loss at lower rpms and might slow the turbo's boost rate down. So, did they or didnt they have anoroids on them originally and am i better off with it or without it like it was before?
Many thanks for the insight
bell142

To be quite honest with you im not sure what an anoroid is. There is a bank of "solonoids" set up on a small manifold bank coming off the pump. Really never knew what it was, never asked. On your finals, keep an eye on the fluid and metal shaving, I try to pull axles once a year to check bearings, sun gears, planataries etc. I have learned to look at motors as an expected cost but transmissions, and finals can sometimes be worth more than the machine. Oh yea i would have the torque conv. checked out while the motor is out. (worth the money)

I appreciate your insight. Once i get up and going ill make a point to check the finals first chance. On my machine, the small bank of selonoid looking pressure switches...3 of them...are connected to the right rear head and tie into a oil pressure passage. Mine only has one pressure switch on the top of the inj pump right next to the shut off selonoid. The anoroid valve is also on top of the pump, next to the shut off and pressure switch. It is round and only a inch or two tall...bout 2 inches around. It would have a hose or line coming from the intake manifold to it. It sences intake pressure..or boost from the turbo. That pressure goes thru the tube or hose into the anoroid and lets the fuel rack travel further open once the boost is up..thereby preventing over fueling at lower rpms. I am told i am ok with having it on mine now, as it will benefit the engine as well as saving some fuel and preventing the black smoke clouds upon acceleration from idle.
I had originally intended to open up the converter and check it out inside, but have about changed my mind for now as i really need to get it working and really dont have a lot of extra money to spend on it at this point having spent 3 grand on it already omn top of having just bought the thing, and not moved a single yard of dirt with it yet. Im going to put a new rear seal in the converter as i already have it bought, but not sure i will open it up and go inside it. Its kinda like going to vegas...toss the dice and hope for the best since i never got to work it and get things hot to see how everything else was going to perform.
What types of work do you do mainly down there? Must be horrible not having to work in sub freezing temps and fighting snow like we get to do here. LOL
Thanks again..:drinkup
