I don't have the patience to test anyone's patience. ;)
I'm sure the proper people will take note of this thread, (meaning, it's not something I'm in control of...) :beatsme
Sorry. :(

The site was down for three or four hours Thursday evening starting around 5pm Eastern, I wasn't aware of us being down since then. Bill has notified me via email that he's unable to get on the site at present, I'll pass this on to our tech.
I had problems this morning and again this afternoon.
It would be nice to get back up to speed like before the last server upgrade. We have been spoiled.I notice that the posts have dropped down somewhat in the last day or so.Has Obama put some back to work or are we losing our computers/internet access?Ron G

Hi Steve.
I've had trouble as well. It seems like the HEF domain is going missing from the Domain Name Servers or similar quite frequently in the last few days.
No particular pattern, it will work for a while and then heavyequipmentforums.com just doesn't seem to exist on the Internet at all.
Your IT people should have server log details which should show what has been happening.
Regards Dave

I've been lurking about this site for a few weeks, seems like a dns lookup problem surfaces once in a while, the past couple of days have been bad though...

I've been having DNS lookup errors off and on for a while now. Yesterday HEF was out all together but other sites were ok. Mine can be intermittent and sometimes reloading the page will clear the error, sometimes it's just out for a while. Maybe some of the linked server addresses aren't making it to the DNS tables? BTW it's doing it right now.

Took several tries tonight to get on Steve. Finally had to go thorough the CE magazine site as my book marks nor going off an email would work. This has been happening on and off for several days.

Similar problems here for a number of days now. Most times when I try to get on, I get a message such as "page cannot be displayed." Refreshing the page, opening a new browser window, deleting cookies, or trying other ways in does not help. Obviously, this morning it's working again.

I think we've got the availability problem taken care of, we're taking steps to get the site speed in better shape at this point. Myself and our tech are both involved in snow removal, these issues will have to be worked out between storms, but we're on the case and will have it under control as soon as possible.
Thanks for your support and patience.

Reserecting an older thread but as its a logging in problem I think its relevent :D
Was on the board for a couple of hours last night ( Fri 20:00 GMT ) left the puter while catching X-men which I forgot was on :Banghead, when I returned I was logged off.
Not a problem, I know this happens if there is no activity. BUT when I attempted to log back in it did all the usual things like thank you and redirecting you, BUT the threads were all locked still, and my name was in the online paragraph at the bottom of the page. After 4 attempts I gave up and went to bed which is where I was supposed to be anyway.
The same thing has happened again just now Sat 14:50 GMT. I didnt check first but now suspect that my name might have shown me online all night, anyway, it did after the first failed attempt. After 4 failed attempts I rebooted the puter as a first resort, second is to launch it out the window  and lucky for it, ( and me ;) ) I logged straight in. :beatsme

If anyone else had a similar problem at this time period, 3pm Eastern Friday and 9:50am this morning, please note it here. I want to determine if this is a server issue or a problem isolated to AtlasRob. Thanks!
Rob, did you receive any error messages or was the page just locked?

Rob, did you receive any error messages or was the page just locked?
No error messages. Everything went just as normal except when the page reloads and you normally are in, I wasn't.
It was just as the page is before you log in, with my name at the bottom showing me as being online.
My son has suggested that as I did not log out, I was evicted so to speak ;)
could it be something to do with the cookies and history loading an old page. I have been evicted before but logged straight back in upon my return.
I have encountered the problem before but it was a long time ago, probably more than a year and I never actually found a cause or cure, it just started working again.
I now wonder if it worked after I or another family member had rebooted.

Let me know if it gives you further trouble, it may have been just a glitch in the cookie recognition. I've had it happen to me in the past once or twice for some unknown reason both here and on other forums, and it straightened itself out. I don't know if it was a site problem or if my computer lost its cookies.

Hello.
The site has had a very minor hiccup last night.
I noticed that too. I could not get on last night around 9pm
http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=17288
Has been an ongoing deal for a week or better, sometimes you can get here, sometimes not.I had all but given up until someone encouraged to try again.Seems 50/50 most of the time.
This may not help but I will of an evening have HEF on two tabs, one for chat and one for running the forums. If I click off of HEF for some reason I can't get back to the forums but still the chat works.
Have had one night that I could not get on.Next morning it was good.
I'm not being a wise acre but it is a concern,I'm wondering how many new people have seen the broken link and never given a 2cd thought about trying again

Me too Tiny...I've been having trouble accessing the site from home and work. The problem is my domain name servers at home and work can't resolve heavyequipmentforums.com. They are different DNS servers as well. I used an an online tool from work to do an name server lookup which uses a different DNS from the one I use at work. It resolved the HEF name fine. It spit out an IP address which I was able to ping from work. So I know the HEF server is up.
I was also able to modify my DNS at work to point to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8) and I'm able to resolve the name and get to the site. I'm unable to do this at home, because I DHCP my DNS server and it can't be overridden. So I'm still blocked out at home. Could the problem be in the DNS registrar? It seems weird that some DNS servers work fine and other do not.
Again last night and this morning,"broken link"

We are experiencing some kind of DNS issue which we are actively trying to track down. Thanks for your patience.
Ok not wanting to be a broken record but a couple of places I visit told me that they don't know of trouble sometimes unless it's reported.
