Here are some pics from the co I came to CA to work for in 03.
1. Is an 800 Linkbelt it is one of the biggest hoes on the west coast.
2. Is a 4 plex before we started demo on the Naval housing in San Diego.
3. Is everything not concrete stripped off the building done with an army of Cat skid steers with grapple buckets. Except for the roof and what ever we could reach on the second floor with a hoe with a thumb.
4. What’s left...
5. The 800 sit on what’s left of a 4 plex in place of a bucket there is a D11R ripper shank. Not the best means of demo, but it took that building down fast.

1. Is me sit on a rubble pile running a hoe with a Demo Pro braking up the 60'x4'x2' footing. So the Munchers can remove the rebar and get everything to 2' minus for the crusher. Everything crushed went into the Earthquake blankets that we put under the new building pads.
2. Is the 800 digging the overex down to sea level for the blankets.

Awesome pics Dozerboy. That 800 is huge. It looks like it would totally crush the Bobcat in the first pic (beside the bucket), but what's even more scary is it looks like it could do the same to the tandem in the last pic!

Ya, that thing almost too big for what I used it for. Loading belly’s was ok, but end dumps where a b*tch. On that job we where running 3 rock trucks, but the haul was long on the first dig so we got the 2 10 wheelers in there too.

i didn't even see the Bobcat.....if i was operating it, i'd want a strobe on the cab so i didn't get loaded!

Awesome pics Dozerboy. The Link-Belt is a big'ol hoe. I went to a landscape stone quarry once over by me to get a load of loose wall stone from a guy who opened a quarry on his land, and he bought a big, giant Leibherr (spelled right?) with something like a 10 yd. bucket. I had a Western Star tandem with a 15 ft. Bibeau body, and the bucket BARELY fit down inside the body to curl out to dump the stone without breaking it all up. I was intimidated by the size of the teeth on it, as I was up in the body trying to arrange the stone into the corners. If he drifted just slightly, I'd have been hamburger.
Tell me, what is the deal with "earthquake blankets?" Is it a bed of crushed material so deep, that acts as a cushion, or what? Please explain.(Don't get very many earthquakes in New England, so I'm not familiar...)

In all the quarries and banks here, they will not load a truck unless the driver is in the cab. This is something that has gone into effect in the past couple years.

The reason smaller building fall down is the shaking cause’s soil liquification (ie quick sand) under 1/2 of the building and 1/2 the foundation sinks causing the building to topple. We place earthquake blankets under building so when soil liquification happens it happens evenly through out the whole building so the whole thing sinks evenly and doesn't topple. Earthquake blankets are a very HD plastic woven "tarps" that we put down then 18" of 3" stone crushed concrete in this case with a tarp on top. The blankets are placed close to sea level because once you dig past sea level you hit a never ending supply of ground water. That is where soil liquification starts.

Great pics , thanks .
I'm also wondering how many cubic yards that bucket would be ? Must of been a heavy move to your site as well .
thanks again and keep them coming .

The new job
The Clark 380 wheeldozer I'm running tires are over 6' tall
Our new D9T

are those terex scrapers??
the cat T series dozers are nice , but here in AZ. alot of cooling problems. just had a major retrofit on our D8T seems to have helped alot. dont know exactly what they did , but took two days to do it...lol
looks like a cool job site.
take care!

Yep those are Terexs we has 3 mil. yds. to move yet on this job I could be here a while.
Terex joke
Why are terexs green?
So they can hide in the grass from the cats.:yup
Lol you won't catch me on one of those POSs.

Thats real nice scenery. You wouldn't even have to pay me to come to work with a view like that.......did I say that out loud.:spaz
Dozerboy, what would compare to that Clark as far as track dozers go?
Dozerboy
12-18-2006, 05:23 PM
It’s hard to compare a track dozer to a wheel dozer, but the 380 runs high 500s HP at 125,400 lb operating weight its maybe comparable to a D9. The blade is 4' tall or so, is 11/2x wider then a scraper, has no problem boiling dirt over the blade in 2nd gear all the way through the fill, and with a coal blade will push 39 yds.

Not knowing much about wheel dozers (we don't have many around here) I was under the impression that they were light duty. But after talking to a wheel dozer operator :yup I stand corrected.:thumbsup Thanks.

Got some more pics
My JD 1050 with a D9R behind it we got some rain last night so don't mind the rust.
A pic before the rain the 9 is pushing the T24 through a 15' street overX and a T18 pushpull.
The rain is here a 650/beegee cleaning the mud off the haul roads.
My view all day pushing our bonehead T24 hands that CAN'T RUN A FREAKING PATTERN rant over.
The 9 pushing a T24 for pad overX

Jobs that require this much earth moving are almost more than I can fathom...its overwhelming to see all those huge machines working (mostly) in unison reshaping the landscape...what is going to be on this site? its an awful lot of dirt being pushed around must be something large
That JD 1050 looks like an awesome machine to run Dozerboy.
I liked the shot showing your "view" from the seat all day. Hey, why do they put that big pipe right there. It seems to obstruct the view and put fumes in your face. Doesn't make sense really, does it?

We haven't even begun to move dirt on this job for this small of project. We are doing as many overXs as we can, these are all house pads. Then we are going to move in a screen and mine the cobble and sand. We will use the sand for a 2' cap on the pads and sell the cobble. Then we will fill in that we mine and a canyon in with the clay. I'll try and update the pics, but they are still unsure what they want to do with me.
I hate that damn stack its 5" under the hood and JD slapped on that 8" POS for bling I guess. I don't much care for the JD, but it will make a good operator out of you it's a very touchy machine.
Yeah, that stack is crazy. Why did they design it that way. The people at Deere are usually pretty smart.
Filling in a canyon. That is awesome. How big is the canyon you gotta fill. That is really changing the face of the earth. Cool man.

It isn't that big like 30' deep 200' wide. If you look at the pics above with my compactor that was all canyons and the ones that are left will all be filled in for house pads. And that is nothing there are companies in Socal that don't take jobs under 10 mil. yds. that is twice the size of the job with the compactor.

My new one this is the one that the bees got me on. It all going to be cut slops and shoring some of the cuts are 30'+. Had to do a little pioneering to remove some brow ditch and for the drill rig to get up to the top of the shoring. The worse part is there is supposed to be some Gnatcatchers a so call endangered bird in the canyon above the job. We can't exceed 62db of constant noise past the limits of the job or I guess the bird will commit suicide or something:rolleyes: . That is why there is a sound barrier at the top of the hill. They have biologists there with sound mics that shut me down when I exceed the 62dbs after a length of time. There was a point I could only work for 4 mins out of 30mins, but most of the time I can get away with 30 mins of 1hr. I keep telling my super to take a walk up there and accidentally drop a smoke in the brush, maybe after spilling some gas. The worse part is they haven't seen the damn bird there yet and this Gnatcatcher is the same as the Mexico Gnatcatcher that there are so many of that it is considered a problem in Mexico.

Is that what those little buggers look like? I'm going on a mission with my BB gun on Monday maybe I'll bring the biologist some Gnatcatcher stew.:naughty
Dozerboy:
You should just doze the whole canyon and hillside where those damn birds are living. Knock down those trees, just like you took care of those Torey Pines that were in your way! Go get 'em, Dozerboy. Those little buggers won't even know what hit 'em when you come through with your equipment.
The damn leaflickers are at it again, aren't they?

I got sick of the BS told them to pull me off the job for a few days. I want see if we can't get the GC to get the tree huggers to back down a little. I'm asking to much I'm sure, and I getting held up by the shoring guys.
I wouldn't buy no jap crap I was just to lazy to walk 10' so it wouldn't be in the pic. :usa

Some updated pics from post# 29
Got one of the 3 walls we are building done just need to get the slope above it built (next pics). And I'm almost done with the old wall demoed we are saving the block and going to sell it. House has been moved to its new home. There are security gates you have to go through to enter the school and the gate closed on one of the delivery trucks smashed it all up good. No more Gnatcatchers!!!!! And I didn't even have to burn the canyon.

A week later really running out of room and nothing like handling dirt 10 times literally. All the export is done it was over 4K yds., but I still think we have to much dirt on the job. In the last pic the grade you see where the footing is being dug is where we will be at when we are done we have a lot of dirt to move to behind the wall.

I'll see if I can find anymore pics of the 800, but I not sure if I still have any more.

We gave up on moving it again and I instructed everyone to take some home in there pockets everyday, but they have to bring it back when its time to backfill.:beatsme
Unless they find gold dust in it, then you'll never see that dirt again.
Hey, dozerboy. Longtime, bro.
