View Full Version : Saw for hire on TLC

Just watched 2 episodes of Saw for Hire on the TLC channel. Not a bad show as far as showing what they do for projects(lot of ice storm clean up in OK). They were working on a few large down trees in congested neighborhoods. However, the boss acts like a hot headed know it all big shot, swearing and yelling at his employees contantly. And he even comments to the viewers that some might think he is wild and stupid in some of the footage of him running a skid loader(bouncing side to side, turning way to fast on pavement and riding wheelies with the boom all the way up. He clamis that he just gets the best use out of the machine. If hes doing it just for the cameras its wrong and if thats the way he really is, well I can see maybe why he lives job to job in order to pay his employees. Take the verbal stuff out of it and it was interesting to watch. Anyone else seen it?

Did you see the one where the crane almost tipped over backwards trying to hold up the top of a tree they cut ? They apper to be incredibly unsafe , let OSHA go after people like that.

Hey libertybell, I know where you are coming from. I also have been reading this forum from the shadows for quite some time now. I could not resist not sayin anything regarding this dude. So I signed up finally.
Anyway, that show is great for some laughs for sure. I finally figured out that this clown boy was a piece of work when I seen him in that bobcat. You gotta give this guy credit, he is passionate about his work or the camera, I cannot decide which. My stepdad was a screamer, but he made sense and is very very good at organizing the crew. Anyway gang, this show is truly worth checking out at least once.
Hey, great forum, check ya later

I'm still trying to get it through my head that this is actually a REAL company. I can't belive ANYONE would pay to hire this guy and how ANYONE would be stupid enough to work for him for more than a day. I know the guys on both the aboristsite and forestryforums think the same way, hell what person with ANY common sense would.

I am in the tree biz and hope you all know that this isn't the norm for most owners. And I hope all watching know that this guy is a drama queen. He could be on the new show TOOL ACADEMY.

I watched the two episodes that are on the website, it's obvious this guy is trying to cash in on the reality show phenomenon. I'm curious to see how long it lasts. Who in their right mind would conduct private business while on national TV?

i still find it hard to believe he is in business,i think i've seen 2 or 3 shows so far had the boom truck off the ground,2 blocked the boom truck while the other end of the tree was resting on a house, tore off part of a roof, swung a tree almost into some high voltage lines, and last but not least every mistake either he meant to do it or it was someone else's fault. oh yeah i forgot about the skid steer operating.

I wonder what the clients think of him when he pulls up in a MB. Then the eposide where he spent around $10,000 on boots and gear. The show is so bad it's tough to turn off, it's like a train wreck.

You know, people will do anything to make a quick buck off their 'business' by advertising it and how they are the professionals, and how it is so dangerous, real overkill if you ask me.

In alot of areas of the southern states its pretty typical to have a boss who believes acting like that is good for keeping people inline below them. I just finished a stint working for a company out of Birmingham, AL. who would would regularly threaten to fire people for the smallest issues.
I had some issues with how they did things and the answer always was,
"they'll fire your @ss",
My reply was, "I'll leave now if you want".
Anybody that tolerates of minute of that is only allowing and condoning it to go further. In the case of that company, many of the employees were latino and most likely Illegal immigrants on publicly funded projects which in itself is a tragedy.
They think by terrorizing employees by loss of job that it makes them work harder. You would never believe some of the things I saw there that the employees did to each other in retaliation. Sad and pathetic at the same time.

Been reading on the arboristsite and did some looking on TLC. Looks to me like the show has be cancled, or OSHA did really show up and CANCEL the company. I know the guys over at AS were very mad about it, as it makes them look bad as a tree cutting community as a whole. Hopefully some of these shows will start to show good hard and safe working companies and where people can actually learn from it, but that might be too boring for the normal viewer.

I've been lurking here for some time. The show has been cancelled. On their own website TLC says they have received over 7000 complaints and have received letters from ISA and OSHA.
When I first saw the show I thought it was a comedy that was mocking some of the other reality shows but then realized they were serious.

Ok it was a bit lame and didn't generate enough general interest to suit the network advertisers, they need the producers from Hells Kitchen and make Hells Jobsite for the foreman's job or maybe Excavator makeover or pimp my loader or last crane standing, there must be some kind of spin we off could apply to HEF. Simon whats his face judging American Dozer King. Who's got one to beat that?

I think in the letter this paragraph probably would have had the biggest impact on Discovery executives especially the word "complicit"
"
Discovery Communications claims it is committed to managing its business activities in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and to ensuring honest and ethical behavior by its directors, officers, employees and contingent workers. “Saw for Hire” is a constant, ongoing violation of state, federal and industry professional standards and safety practices. In broadcasting this program, your network is complicit in the promotion of the unprofessional and unsafe practices of this company – practices that lead to injuries and fatalities in the tree care industry on a weekly basis.
