Hi there,

Thought I'd post some photos of our equipment we use to farm. My family farm consists of 2700ac of cash crops (corn, beans, wheat, hay) and a small beef feedlot finishing about 300 head a year.

Ask any questions you like and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Warren

Smallest to largest. It is suspenseful this way. :)

pic 1 Kubota L175: Its only job is to move round bales inside of converted tiestall dairy barns for storage purposes.

pic 2 White 1270: This tractor has 1600 original hours on it (no joke) we bought it from a neighbour who had a very small lot and for some reason had a tractor. This tractor is very handy. Does a lot of the utility work around the farm including teaming wagons, haying, light duty pto work etc.

pic 3 White 2-60: This tractor has about 25000 hours on it. What a work horse it has been. While it was once the main loader tractor on the farm, its tasks include light teaming and pto work. It isn't worth trading so might as well keep it as it plays a useful roll during spring planting as a yard tractor.

pic 4 John Deere 6110: This tractor replaced the 2-60 as the manure tractor. It does not get a lot of field time, but is vital in keeping our feedlot clean of manure. We use it a lot for haying and filling silo. This tractor did do all the stone picking but has been since replaced by a nicer tractor in this job

pic 5 John Deere 6200: The main utility/runabout tractor on the farm. If this tractor doesn't move, we probably aren't working. The tractor has almost 9000 hours on it and we would be lost without it. This tractor does the snow removal, feedlot work, teaming, spreads fertilizer, medium/heavy duty loader work, haying and many other things

No shortage of power on your farm then, Warren :cool2

I remember seeing those pics a couple years ago of the AFC that went thru the ice while cutting maize

Got anymore?

Pic 1: TV-140 This tractor is really interesting. It is a bi-directional tractor and as a result can be driven equally well in either direction. It has a very heavy loader on it and is our heavy loader for the farm. The tractor was bought to pick stones. With a stone fork a very labour intensive job becomes a very relaxing laid back job. Foot controls for the loader and a hydrostatic transmission make it ideal for loader work.

Pic 2: TS130A This tractor is new this year to the farm, we have put about 380 hours on it so far and are very pleased. The 2wd makes the tractor highly maneuverable and it fits in as a heavy utility tractor very well. This tractor pulls the 8 row corn planter in the spring, teams wagons, does pto work, and is taking some of the pressure off the 6200 because it goes 3mph faster on the road.

The next 4 tractors are all about the same hp, according to the company specs this is the order of hp, but according to a real dyno the T7060's are much bigger than the 2 Deere's

Pic 3: T7060 "1" Another new tractor for this year. This one has 450 hours on it and is a very hard worker. We have this tractor set up much lighter than its twin. This one is at 95lbs/hp so it is not a heavy draft tractor. This one pulls our 30ft air seeder in the spring, side dresses NH3 in the summer and teams wagons in the fall. It might be on a grain cart in the future. This tractor has the 32mph transmission.

Pic 4: T7060 "2" This tractor only showed up in mid May so it missed the spring rush. It is heavier than the other with 105lbs/hp. It has taken over the tillage work the 8200 used to do. In the spring it pulls a 32ft field cultivator, runs a blower filling silo in the summer and does a lot of sitting in a shed, and fills out the year by pulling a 6 furrow plow.

Pic 5: John Deere 8440 This tractor is absolutely brutal to drive because of the crappy transmission, but it has a very good engine. All throughout the year it pulls a manure spreader transporting manure from the barns to a storage lagoon. In the spring it does a bit of disking with a 25ft disk and harrow cart. In the fall it is on a grain cart keeping the combine going.

Pic 1: John Deere 8200 This tractor has 4500 hours on it now so it is being given a lighter duty. It used to do the tillage work the new T7060 does, but now it pulls the 16 row corn planter in the spring, sidedresses corn with NH3, pulls a 28ft end dump in the fall.

Pic 2: Case IH 9250 This tractor has about 5000 hours on it and is the main work horse of the farm. This tractor pulls a 54ft field cultivator in the spring and an 8 furrow plow in the fall. Also the tractor does some land planing in the summer. Now with an excavator, it will probably pull a dump trailer in the summer...maybe. This tractor will be replaced at some point by a bigger 4wd.

Other motorized equipment

pic 1: Willmar Eagle 8100 This is my baby, I am in this cab for several months of the year. It has about 250hp Cummins Engine, an 80ft 5 section boom, 850 gal product tank. Spraying starts in the beginning of may and some years can go right into November depending on the year.

pic 2: John Deere 5440 forage harvester. This one is an oldy. 31 years of service on the farm. However it is done, it gave up, and doesn't want to play any more, something will replace it next year.

pic 3: Caseih 2388 This is our combine for the farm. We have an 8 row corn head and a 30ft flex head for it. It is going to be replaced this winter by another machine, possibly a 7010 or adding a second 23/2588. Not sure what to do yet.

Of course I have literally thousands of other photos of our equipment in action, if you want to see more of something don't hesitate to ask.

Looks like you've got quite an operation going there!! I always thought White tractors were silver, yours looks like the old Massey Ferguson orange.

I'm so impressed that you know each and every-one of your machines personally. I'd guess that for this reason you get good reliability and good resale value. Great post.

Right you are...for the most part. For a short while the small White tractors were marketed in Cockshutt red.

Hi there,

Yep, you are right with the color. The forage wagons are all Dion. They were a company from Quebec that only recently went out of business. Those forage wagons are extremely popular in this area, but parts availability is becoming an issue.

Could you shoot some close up pics of the stone fork?
And i am second to that you know your equipment inside out, its indeed nice to read such writeups. :notworthy

Just as well as a flex draper at half the price and half the headaches. We've been running an air reel for over 10 years now and would never go back. The new 35ft flex head will have one as well.

You've got to know your machines inside out. How can you not and still be efficient?

Here are a couple of the stone bucket. It is a Houle MFG bucket. I don't seem to have ever taken a photo of just the stone bucket. Hmmmn. Hope these help.

I would love to have one for late in the harvest season when the beans are falling out of the pods. The amout of head loss when the beans hit 10% is not pretty. We just went to a 30' head, with a full finger auger, and MAN what a difference. Kind of hard to spot rocks at the outside edges though:Pointhead.....couldent even imagine a 35' head! I think id have a soar neck after a 15 hour day on it.

HAHA, yea, a 30ft head was big for the first day, then you wished it was bigger. You'll get used to watching 30ft pretty quickly. We have a stone retarder drum and a stone trap on our combine so I'm never worried about picking a stone.

I would look into an air reel. The jet stream through the crop pushes everything off the cutter bar and to the back of the auger. No slugs. It even works really well in wheat too. Actually, if you have a grass escape in a crop, the light dry grass will actually blow out of the head instead of going through the combine.
