Never underestimate the power of the average clown to do something stupid.

Saw a guy with a good sized Deere track hoe, trying to move it on a 1950's vintage single axle lowboy. Track hoe hung off both sides, and, since there wasn't room for the boom to lie down on the bed, he simply folded it as best he could, and left it sticking off the back end of the trailer, hanging in the breeze.

Has I been in an area where the cell phone worked, I'd have called DOT, or the local authorities. Can only imagine him trying to stop that rig with one set of brakes, assuming this trailer had functioning brakes.

Never fails to amaze me what some people will do to get by.

I hauled an OC-6 Diesel behind my K1500 for about 50 miles,, had surge brakes on the trailer but the 305 was a little overworked on the hills.

I'm sure that Oliver wasn't as heavy as the Cat is though.

There appears to be a chain in front of the blade but nothing on the rear. He is towing somewhere around 4X his tow vehicles weight. I sure wouldn't want to have to stop it going down a hill.

I have seen the same thing around here & some of the hills in West Virginia are hard enough to stop on in a pickup without towing a dozer. For about two months I would see a white 2500HD pulling a dozer, finally I saw the truck on the side of the road with the hood up & the DOT behind.

I just noticed now that they have Florida plates and as far as I know hills aren't a problem there. I still wouldn't try it , but at least they aren't doing it in the mountains.

One of our trucks was hauling a large roller on a float trailer, and he had it tied down with four individual chains and tighteners. Proper way to do it but he forgot to place the cotter key in the pintle hook latch. The float unhooked from the truck then started veering from side to side until the safety chains broke and away went the trailer roller and all aross the highway and into the ditch coming to rest in a clump of trees. Could have been very serious but luckly no one was hurt. But you know what was really amazing? The roller never moved off the float! :beatsme

At work we've got a BIG lowboy (16 wheel) that we pull with a converted 150 ton Wabco Haulpak. Move tracked equipment from drills to dozers to the trackhoe with it and never tie anything down. Granted it's strictly short distances at relatively low speed (25 mph tops), but our average grade on haul roads is 11%.

We did have one idiot who took off down a ramp with it and neglected to set the park brake on a D11N - it wasn't pretty, but the Cat was mostly unharmed.

I would not want to be in front of that guy with the dozer behind his pickup, when he is trying to stop, flat ground or not.

Some folks will try anything to save a buck even if it means putting others in danger. I've moved some strange stuff before but it's not on busy hiways and always with escorts and at very safe speeds!
